Pros: lightweight, flat bottom, ribbed band to improve grip to insert into / remove from trumpet bell, meant for practice, no buzzy sounds. Cons: two piece design glued at the ribbed band, hard to stay in the trumpet bell, the foam ring is starting to separate from the mute after two uses, noticeable back pressure. What to expect: Most sealed mutes will cause the sound to pitch upwards almost by a half scale. For a beginner player, this can be a challenge to associate the pitch and their own intonation especially when using this Eastrock mute. This mute is better used by an intermediate or advanced player solely for practice; it would not suffice for an actual performance. I did not experience any buzzy sounds (good) playing at all volume levels. I found that the narrow foam ring did not let this mute stay in place very well. It kept tilting (see photo). In comparison to my Pampet practice mute, that mute has a thinner foam ring that is formed as one piece (not a cut sliver of foam) that provides double the surface contact with the trumpet bell than the Eastrock. When playing with the Eastrock mute inserted for more than 30 minutes, it was a more tiring session fighting the back pressure than when using other mutes. Overall impression: It is a basic practice mute for use at home. Cannot recommend for a beginner player. This trumpet mute is made of hard ABS plastic and looks durable. Its narrow end is open, and the body has a very small (maybe 4-5 mm) punch hole for air to escape. It's super lightweight, and a synthetic rubber/sponge ring around the mute makes contact with your instrument to mute the sound. However, this design is somewhat harder for beginners. Even though the trumpet is muted, it becomes quite harder to release a good sound. In addition, the sound seems to have a different pitch. I just received this and tried it out. It is a good practice mute, not as quiet as the Protec practice mute, but close and at a much lower price. It is too large to keep fit in the bell (it is about the length of a straight mute) as compared to the Protec which is very short. I am giving it 4 instead of 5 stars because of this, but I would recommend this for at home practice use when you don't want to disturb others. I will be using it! ... show more

I got this mostly to use as a silencer mute so I could play in an apartment building without disturbing the neighbors. It definitely cuts down the volume but it creates a lot of back pressure which makes it more difficult to play. I believe this is typical of most silencer mutes. It's made of plastic but appears to be well made. The sound quality isn't the best but at this price it's hard to complain too much. ... show more

    • Does mute the sound for this newbie but it seems restrictive?

This is pretty interesting. Especially as I want to try and play without disturbing others. This is able to be inserted and stays put within the trumpet. And it does work to mute the sound. None of my neighbors would be able to hear it. Now I am no expert as I am truly a newbie, but this device seems pretty restrictive. Like I can kind of tell the difference in airflow, so I’m not sure if this is the best way for me to learn. Taking it out and playing feels very different to me then leaving it in and playing. So again it does mute the sound, but it just has like an odd feeling while playing. I am no professional, so do not know if this is supposed to be this way, but to me, it just seems odd. ... show more

that you get out of the claw machine at a Denny’s. I mean, the design is there, it has a rubber ring around the mute opening, but it feels like it’s made out of tin. It’s a hard plastic though… and it just feels uneasy. The main purpose though, is the sound. It mutes, but it’s a weird sound. Not a buzz, but more like how it looks… tinny. I’ll keep it for a last minute resort, but I don’t think this would cut muster with any serious trumpet player. I’m sorry… but this product just needs to be better. ... show more
