Once you have your water heater off the ground, or in our case off the old wood stand this stand is easy to assemble and position. Directions are on the back of the box with big pictures and diagrams. What's not specified is what to do with all the washers - put 2 on each bolt to prevent the head of the bolt and the nut from rubbing on the galvanized steel frame when you're tightening them. ... show more

    • Sturdy but watch for sharp edges

I bought this for a 50 gallon water heater that is 23 inches in diameter. The directions are on the back of the box so don't throw it away until you are done. This was easy to assemble but I had to wear gloves. The manufacture didn't do anything to de-bur or round the edges or corners of the metal. After I put it together, I used a file and a sanding wheel with my Dremel, to clean up all of the edges and corners. The sharp edges are away from where the water heater will be placed, so it isn't necessary, but I was worried about getting cut when working around the water heater. One should consider de-buring the edges of the bottom of the legs if the stand and water heater will be placed on a wood surface (i.e. closet inside the home) and not on concrete, so it won't gouge or bite into the wood over time. I was worried about loosing hardware based on other reviews, but Amazon took care of the problem and shipped it inside one of their boxes. The reason the hardware gets loose is the manufacture put the hardware in a very thin plastic bag and let it bounce against the sharp edges of the metal. Open the manufactures box slowly or you will have nuts, washers, and screws all over the place. It squared up nicely once I was done. ... show more
