  • works, but has some flaws.
Color: Matte Black
Item is double boxed as other reviewers have stated. Assembly is easy, requiring only a phillip's tipped screw driver. The only thing I would add to that is to make sure you insert the tabs on the legs into the slots on the underbelly of the unit so as to secure them properly (you'll see what I mean if you buy one). After assembling the four legs set the unit where you want and plug it in. Controls are behind the door and consist of a flame height control and a temperature control, and an on/off switch. Turn it on and adjust the flame height. The unit is 'almost' silent in this mode, mine makes a slight knocking noise and this may vary unit to unit. Turning up/on the temperature control kicks on a heating unit and fan. In a completely silent room this actually a bit loud. I have a sound level meter and tested this: completing silent room in my home measures 35.3 db. Turning on this heater boosts that up to 43.8. That is almost twice as loud. the mic was level height to the unit and about 3 feet away. It does put out heat. I have a thermometer in my family room and it will heat it from the 71 degrees my furnace keeps it at all the way up to 75 degrees if I turn the temperature control all the way up. My family room is 13x20 with 8ft ceilings. My biggest gripe: The unit's temperature control is a neat feature. If you turn it all the way up it will run forever if your room is decent size because it is trying to reach a temperature point that it probably cannot reach. But turn the knob down 3/4 or 1/2 and the unit will kick off after it thinks it has reached that temperature. Then 30 seconds later it will turn itself back on. It will then run for a few minutes and repeat that process to infinity. Off on, off on, off on. Very annoying especially is a completely silent room. Would I buy it again? Probably. The constant off on cycling is annoying but we humans can adapt to a lot of unpleasant things if the good outweigh the bad. Besides, I can simply turn the temperature control all the way up and either let it run trying to reach a temperature it cannot reach, and then when my room is comfortable I would just turn the whole unit off completely. ... show more

Color: Winter White
This is a fantastic heater both because it produces so much hot air so quietly, but also because it does have the appearance of being a small wood stove. The room for which I purchased it has white furniture so I was happy to find a white stove. I had endured two and a half weeks of zero heat in the 1000sq' house, except the bathroom wall heater, with outdoor temperatures between single digits and the low 30s, mostly in the 20s. The indoor temperature stayed below forty to nearly 46. Needless to say, I huddled in or on the bed, wrapped in covers and was warm in there, but eating was just plain misery because it was too cold to cook in the first place (lack a kitchen stove), except to warm something in a countertop oven or microwave. But the time it took to get the food from the container to my mouth made my fingers feel like they were freezing. This whole situation was a result of my nearly new large pellet stove's control panel failure. Under warranty, the manufacturer was happy to ship a new panel pronto, but it took three weeks to arrive and by that time my injured arms (from tractor snow blade failure) wouldn't permit me to install the device. Even if I hire someone to replace the controls it will be a month or more before I'm able to handle the pellets and keep that stove filled, so it's just going to decorate the living room until next Fall. Once I decided to go with heaters I selected this little white number. But by the time I did, because of its appearance, I'd forgotten what material comprised the body. Yes it's plastic, all but the actual heater unit below the belly of the stove. Sitting here at my desk I can see the undersides of the two back legs, and they are clearly plastic, but seated across a room one would never notice. I would like to fabricate a metal cover for the top, purely for aesthetic reasons. The heater is strrdy enough that it could hold a plant or some decorative items on top. The black metal mesh screen that sits just behind the window and door frames adds to the ambiance that the lit fire logs and flame display behind them create. Surprisingly, although I know the truth about the materials and flame design, I truly enjoy looking up from my desk and seeing the mock fire and stove design. Entering or leaving the room affords a view of the fire logs from a different angle, and it's pleasing too. I definitely recommend the electric fireplace, which looks like a wood stove. It is a good solution to have on hand when the pellet stove is on vacation. ... show more
