This is a nice, durable set of stoneware dishes with a good heft. The matte black glaze is evenly applied, and I did not notice any chips or defects. They were packaged securely and arrived without damage. The plates have an unusual shape that reminds me of the trays restaurants use under sizzling fajita platters. They are wide with a straight upright rim, which I am still not completely sold on. We have ended up using these as our "set the takeout container on top" plates, since the raised rim works well for keeping the containers from sliding. The plates stack neatly in the cabinet, but the bowls feel a little less stable when stacked. The bowl walls are also slightly lower than I prefer, though that makes sense given the overall capacity. One thing worth mentioning is the terracotta base. I thought I would like that detail more than I do. In person, the brown strip is thicker and more visually prominent than I expected, and I find it both distracting and unattractive. Its presence is obvious in the listing photos and certainly not a flaw in the product itself, but it is something you should think carefully about if you are considering this set. The price is reasonable compared to similar options, though it varies by color. I paid $55.99 for the matte black finish, and after seeing them in person, I think the current price of $39.99 is more appropriate. At anything higher than that, I would personally choose something I find more attractive.
