After reading the few available reviews here and elsewhere I ended up purchasing this item. It was quite obvious from all written and video information what this product is and does. I have three full grown labs, two black and one yellow (Gracie, who sheds like it's 95 degrees year 'round). Hair flies off Grace constantly as she walks around the house. I've used this thing on her several times now and actually looked closely for hair dropped on the floor during the process...I have yet to find ONE piece. It actually suctions from above the brush mechanism as you're brushing with the button pushed so as to suck up (according to Dysons site) hair and allergens...seems to be so. Admittedly I was a bit skeptical and was more than prepared to return it should it not work well. I'll not be returning it. Yes, it's made out of plastic, like pretty much all other Dyson products. No, it's not "cheap" plastic. It's heavy duty, well made, well fit material. There are actually more bristles than I had thought based on the photos and they are smaller and shorter. I was worried they may not work well with medium length lab-hair...they do. Yes, hair and dust sticks to this, just like every other Dyson product. Get yourself some Static Guard spray or take a dryer sheet and wipe down all the surfaces that attract hair...problem solved. Actually Dyson should include an environmentally friendy anti-static spray or cloth with all their vacuums. The only slight issue I had was finding out whether it would work with my Dyson Vac...the DC23 Animal Canister. You'd think I wouldn't even need to check, what with the "Animal" designation on the vac but the Dyson site was pretty ambiguous about it...saying that it wouldn't work with some canister models, particularly the Motorhead versions...of which it seemed the DC23 Animal was one. Works fine with this canister and looks as if it would work with just about all the Dyson upright and canister vacs. The videos on the Dyson web-site are pretty impressive. So much so they tended to make me even more skeptical. I can tell you without a doubt they are not doctored in the least...when you let that button go and the bristles retract the hair disappears in a blink. Oh, yes and you should definitely either make sure your dog will tolerate the vacuum being so close first or be willing to put some time in to accustom him/her to it. I would highly recommend this item to anyone with a shedding pet (although the cat won't have anything to do with it...yet)

I used this on my (now 🌈) lab with an incredibly thick coat that was very loosely attached. He shed like no dog I’ve ever known or had since, He was a relatively fearless dog, so the noise didn’t bother him much. This kept our grooming sessions as clean as possible because there were no balls of fur to throw away.

Hi, I have had my DC50 for a little over a week now. All I can say is WOW. This vacuum has some great suction. I have a corgi, and as all corgi owners know, corgis shed A LOT. This vacuum picks up the hair in one pass. It works perfectly on my wood floors, rugs, and carpet. See below for details on the features of the vacuum/attachments. Cleaner Head The new cleaner head has carbon fiber bristles. This might sound a little bit "gimmicky" because of how everyone is starting to put carbon fiber into their products; however, it does serve a purpose. The previous brush heads only had the red bristles. They were good for cleaning carpets, but had to be turned off when cleaning hard floors so they wouldn't scratch. The new cleaner head still has the red bristles, but the appear to be shorter so that they wont scratch the floor. The black carbon fiber bristles gently sweep hard wood floors. Also, the cleaner head adjusts automatically, creating the perfect amount of suction on every floor type. Canister The canister on this vacuum is not very large, but that is to be expected on the compact model. I especially enjoy the “hygienic” emptying feature. Just hold the canister over the trash, press the red button, and everything falls out the bottom. No mess, no hastles. Hose/Cord The power cord is sufficiently long… there isn’t really much else to say about it. The hose; however, is not very long. While this is the compact model, the hose can only be described as “too short”. You can purchase a hose extension for a nominal price, so this isn’t a deal killer. Durability Dyson comes with a 5 year warranty and has excellent customer service, so I’m not really worried about durability. A lot of people complain that Dyson vacuums are made of plastic. This is not an issue, they are made from a very durable ABS plastic blend. (The same type of plastic used in riot shields) Dyson Groom Tool This tool is nothing short of spectacular. Push the button, brush the dog, release the button and watch the hair get sucked away. DONE! Soft Dusting Brush Exactly what it sounds like. This is probably the tool that I use the most. It has soft bristles, so you can use it to brush delicate items. I use it to dust my piano, tv, cabinets, lamps, pictures, art, etc. Hard Floor Tool This tool is useful to get into tight corners where the vacuum can’t fit. (around plants and furniture) Multi Angle Brush I use this tool to dust he fans and the crown molding around my cabinets. It has two built in rotation points, so it can turned to virtually any angle. Mattress Tool I have no idea why Dyson named this the mattress tool. You can use it on so much more than the mattress. It is useful for any type of fabric. I use it almost daily to get the massive amount of dog hair off of my comforter. Combination Tool Perfect crevice tool with brush. I use it to clean the crevices in my couch and also on the baseboards. Tangle Free Turbine Tool I haven’t had a chance to purchase this. I am hoping to purchase this in the future.

We have a long haired woolly beast of a wolf hybrid named Zeus living with us in sunny Florida and the struggle with shedding is a very real thing. We have tried just about every brush there is an the length and coarseness of Zeus's hair is always the challenge. To be fair to Dyson I should mention that we spent 3 years living in Alaska with Zeus and he never really lost that tundra coat. This brush works pretty well however. It really keeps the house clean during brushing which we used to reserve as an outside activity unless it was winter and then the long white hair all over the yard doubles as Christmas decorations. It was a bit unclear at the time but the brush is constantly in a state of suction which is nice, sucking up dander and such and then the hair once you depress the guard. It took a little getting used to for Zeus who is afraid of a great many loud noises in life despite his enormous bulk. Now the reason I give it four stars is that it just doesn't get to his undercoat as well as an undercoat rake despite being labeled for long haired dogs. It does reasonably well and certainly makes cleanup a breeze and that is definitely an advantage. Some reviewers say that it is awkward to handle, I felt that it handled fairly well considering its attached to a hose. Snaps right on to the hose just as well as any other Dyson attachment. If they could design one of these more like an undercoat rake with the larger stiff blunt needles, it would work like a dream. I have included a photo of Zeus to help illustrate his coat.

I remember when this product came on the market. It was shortly after we were - finally - able to afford to buy a Dyson (which we wanted since we got a dog) and it was hilarious as my husband and I used to talk about how cool it would be if such a tool would exist and if Dyson would invent one ;-) But, alas, as we had just splurged on the Dyson itself we could not afford to buy this tool as well. Took us years and moving between two continents to finally get it ...! First our dog literally hated it and we could not put it to use without both of us working together - one doing the brushing (yes, the necessity to hold the "lever" down is bit inconvenient, but not a real issue), the other one keeping our dog from trying to avoid it (he does indeed hate brushing in general). Well, after praising him a lot (when he actually stood still for a second) and of course a special treat after his "ordeal" and after we passed the Taking-a-bath-stage which corresponds to "I am standing absolutely still as I am going to be executed any moment" - which already meant that one of us could do the brushing and the other one was no longer needed for that -, we are now at the "I am coming when called to do the brushing but realize upon arrival that I have to go through THAT first to get my treat" which works perfectly fine for everybody involved. So, this lengthy process of getting our dog to this stage was well worth it, because, this Dyson tool does work splendidly and I am glad we finally got around to buy it. My concern was that the brush might hurt our dog (he is medium-sized) but with our dog it does not go all the way down to the skin - and there is no need to as it still manages to pull out most of the thicker fur underneath the "top" coat. We actually managed to get this whole fur-shedding over with real fast and without having all the additonal hair all over the place and our dog does love his treats, so win-win, I'd say! Recommended!

Omg!!! I was a bit hesitant to purchase this item since we don't own a dyson vacuum. But we do own a German Shepherd & also a Pomeranian/Chi mix dogs. As much as I searched I could not find out if it worked with other vacuums other than dyson. We have a Hoover wind tunnel and the only way it worked was by putting it on the extension tubes that came with the vacuum. That made it extremely difficult to use that way. So I thought I'd try our Shop-Vac 5986000 5-Gallon 4.5 Peak HP that we had just purchased a week earlier. SUCCESS!!!!!!!!! It fit perfectly! Not only that but we worked at "vacuuming" the German Shepherd for 30 Minutes! She loved every minute of it, plus she got treats for being so good. She use to be afraid of the vacuum but since I knew this was coming I would take the vacuum hose and run it over her coat giving her a treat after every pass I made with the hose. She became less and less afraid of it and then she began to love it I also kept the vacuum out where she could see it and sniff it everyday. This grooming tool is a lifesaver and I am so glad I took the risk and purchased it (although my husband said he would find a way to adapt it). If dyson were smart they would make various adapters (yes I know they are in the business of selling vacuums) but when you have a product like this you can venture out to other vacuum owners and the possibility that they may buy a dyson. I'm considering it after this, but I would like to see one work and where we live it's just not possible right now. Hope this helps for anyone thinking of purchasing one of these groom tools.

I have a Dyson Animal DC41. The brush works well, and the hole sucks away the hair pretty well. However, between the handle of the brush and the attachment portion on the hose of my Dyson, it gets very bulky to hold and try to maneuver. Pair that with holding down the button to keep the bristles out and holding down my husky, it gets very tiring after a certain point. Also, since the hose coils so well, it is difficult to extend it, so I end up pulling my Dyson close to me while trying to use the brush. The brush works really well, but I wish I had a less compacted hose, so it'd be a little easier to use. It'd also be preferred if the bristles stayed out all the time and I only needed to push a button to retract them.

I have used this attachment for the last 4 months and have finally arrived at the conclusion that it is just more fuss than it is worth. Our dogs are conditioned to noise and enjoy being in the shop when I am working. The noise of our Dyson wasn't a problem. However, that's about where the good stops and where the problems begin. **If you have short hair dogs - ignore my first point as it pertains to my experience with long haired dogs. We used it on my Mother-In-Law's Chocolate Labs and it worked great sans my second observation which applies more universally Here goes: The neatest trick about this attachment is that it automatically sucks the hair from the wire bristles. We've all seen the video where it just *poof* disappears. What we haven't seen is that with long hair, it will actually suck the hair strands over and around the entire head. Not only is there suction from the big hole in the middle, there is also suction from around the periphery. This creates an interesting problem of mechanics. You press and hold the back with your thumb to expose the wire bristles, brush-brush away and then release the plastic when the head is full. *Poof* the plate pushes out, the needles recede and the hair is gone. Well, not if you are dealing with long white hair. In which case, the moment you release the plastic head... it simply... stays put. With hair being sucked through the middle and around the edges, the plastic plate is held firmly into place by very forces that are trying to help. I can't quite figure out what the designers were getting at by not better sealing around the edges? If the central hole was the sole source of suction, this problem would perhaps, not exist. Why the *edge suction*? In my case, to clear the head, I developed a method where I held the head with one hand and pulled the plastic plate forward with the other. Depending on how much hair was in there, this would be quickish or rather slow as the vacuum forces work against you quite effectively. The second problem with this device is its pairing with the Dyson hose. Maybe our DC25 Animal hose is just *super rugged* in which case I'd say its rigidity could be toned down (a lot). That damn thing is as stubborn as trying to pull mountain leeches off calf muscles. Once you have it released with the Grooming attachment in place, the fun begins. Every brushing motion you make causes the hose to flex, squeak and move the entire vacuum. There may be 15' of compressed vacuum hose in there, but I've never seen it go beyond about 3 feet without trying to return, coniunctis viribus, to its collapsed form. The hose is heavy and I felt it was akin to holding the end of a python that was trying to pull free while its other side was in a tree. As you can imagine, all planes equal, while I'm vacuum brushing our dogs on the floor this creates a less than ideal brushing environment. As I said, our dogs are conditioned for noise (large air compressor, blow dryers, vacuums etc.) However, they are not conditioned to sit idly by while some noisy contraption slowly creeps towards them every time I make a stroke with the brush. Once the Dyson has inched its way across the 2 or 3 feet separating us and comes to rest against the side of my dogs, they look at me with this woefully worried look. Well, the female does anyways. The male would rather inch away which causes our brushing sessions to end about 15 feet from where we started. I've tried about everything to fix this. I even built a mount for the base so I could leave the DC25 about 4 feet away. With the hose being so rigid, it was one heck of a workout. The further away I got from the unit, the harder and harder the hose works against me. I hope this well help some of you with long haired animals and, to cover my bases: not all long haired dogs are equal, so perhaps you will fair better. However, the hose...yeeesh. I will be returning (or selling) my attachment and sticking to a Furminator and a shop vac. Two stars for potential and for some amusing brushing sessions. The one where the vacuum got stuck, as it creeped forward, and tipped onto my male dog springs to mind.
