I ordered this fireplace for the bay window in my bedroom, both for ambiance and heat. According to helpful hints sent out by my local electric company, heat uses 2.5 to 3 times more power than central air. I figured, why heat the whole house at night when I can just heat my bedroom? If the electric company is correct, this should pay for itself in one or two seasons. I believe it arrived and was deposited next to my front steps by FedEx. It is heavy, so heavy in fact I couldn't move the box an inch, never mind getting it up the stairs. I ended up unboxing it where it sat outside. There are several boxes inside the delivery box as well as all the wood slabs. I was able to get everything into my bedroom. So far, so good. The instructions recommend assembling on a blanket or soft service so as to not mar the wood. Most of the assembly I was able to do right on my bed. This proved to be a real plus when it came time to flipping it over (by myself) onto the floor for final assembly. The majority of the assembly consisted of brackets that have a nipple and a place for a screw. Everything is pre-drilled. You will need two size Phillips heads. I used my electric screwdriver with two bits but also needed the two manual ones for the final tightening. The instructions are all illustrated. Every single part is clearly marked. It's important to notice every minute detail of the illustrations and be aware of the finished and unfinished end pieces of wood. If you have an assistant who is helping remove the packaging as you work, note that some of the pieces are marked on the plastic bags and bubble wrap only. Assembly took me 4.5 hours, only because I wasted 1.5 hours lining up the mantel in about 20 places. The problem was the darn wooden dowels, no matter how much I pushed and pulled I couldn't get them to seat properly. I ended up removing them completely. Trust me, you don't need them, the mantel has plenty of screws to hold it firmly. It also comes with straps to attach to a wall I did not use. This bad boy is heavy and stable, even on carpeting, it's not going anywhere. The "flames" have 5 different modes, from roaring to a smoldering flame. There is a timer than is adjustable from 30 minutes to 9 hours. It has a built in thermostat for a constant temp. It heated my 300+ sf room in no time. It took me a minute to figure out how to turn the heat off, just lower the temp to 00. Lose the remote? No problem, it works with a touch screen too. The back does get hot, so consider where you'll place it. Not too hot, but too hot for curtains. An added touch for me that I completely forgot about, my bedroom window sills are marble and this faux marble is indistinguishable from the real thing. ... show more

I was very excited for this fireplace when I ordered it. The name brand and the past experience using Duraflame products made me very eager to see how this would look and perform once assembled. Instructions and packaging were done well. No complaints about how the instructions were written. My issue was a few pieces were damaged and predrilled incorrectly and put a complete halt to my assembly. Reaching out to the company, I was informed they have no replacements. I decided to take matters into my own hands and fix their mistakes. The base had a protrusion that stuck out. Not sure if mine was used, or what happened. I ended up putting wood glue over the paper and hoped for the best. Because this was predrilled, the spot that should have been predrilled did have an indent, so all I had to do was drill where it was supposed to go. Thank goodness I have tools to do this, because I was able to salvage their mistake. The rest of the assembly was not difficult to complete and overall looks decent. The marble front looks a bit off if you have bright lights on it. You can tell it's not one solid piece, which cheapens the fireplace mantel. The fire animation is 100% the best I have seen, and being able to switch between different speeds really sells the effect! The heat the electric heater produces is very good, and the remote allows me to set timers from a distance, which is cool. The front panel also includes these options, but they are a bit difficult to read. I prefer the remote. The price for this fireplace is not the issue; the quality of the product that was given to me was the issue. I feel there were mistakes made during manufacturing, and if it did not have those, it would be a decent piece.     • Beautiful Fireplace, but Assembly & Durability Disappointing
The Duraflame Electric Fireplace Wall Mantel looks absolutely beautiful once it’s set up, and it really does add a classy touch to a room. Unfortunately, the assembly process is extremely frustrating and overly complicated for the price—there should be far less effort required. Even more disappointing, the heating element already stopped working. I did use it heavily, running it 8 hours a day, but for comparison, inexpensive space heaters in my garage can handle that kind of use without issue. While the aesthetic is great, the practicality and durability just don’t match the cost. ... show more
