I purchased it for a cold bedroom. All you do is is screw on the legs and door handle- screws supplied. If you’re looking for something easy to set the atmosphere for those cold mornings and chilly evenings, this checks almost all boxes. After looking through a bunch of this fireplace type heaters, with price and overall realistic look in mind, I’ve decided upon this one due to its simple look as compared to the gaudy others, the trusted Duraflame name, and being able to view the fire from all angles due to the see through grate on the sides. The fireplace was a bit low sitting to be viewed across the entire room, so we used some bed risers to prop it up a few more inches. Since the heating element and the only hot area comes from below, as long as you don’t place anything else below it, the heat coming from there and slighlty on the risers will be okay. Another little modification we made involved a little hacking to the visual fire source’s colored bulbs, blue in particular. If you enjoy some blue in your flame, you can skip this step, but for us the blue looked less like a calming fireplace and more like the police were outside, so we removed the rear panel and unplugged the blue bulbs. The whole process was slighlty annoying, but only required a Phillips head and took a few minutes, a bit more trying to figure out the exact wiring below. The installation of the legs was far more tedious than this, so if you make it past the legs, you can do this too, I believe in you! Anyone needing strong heat for areas that are extremely cold, I’d recommend looking elsewhere, unless you will be using this for a little extra heat and atmosphere and are relying on your home’s larger heater as the primary heating source. This will definitely add some heat, but won’t bring the fire. Based on Hot Ones, this would be a 4-6, definitely not The Last Dab. PROS: • High-Quality & Realistic • View Fire From All Angles • Adjustable Heat w/ No Heat Option CONS: • Not great for extreme cold • Heat take a bit to warm a room • Legs assembly isn’t the easiest • Needs minor hacking for truest realistic flame color To improve this product I would recommend removing the blue color bulbs from the fireplace all together as it looks more less like a relaxing fireplace and more like the police have been called to a bonfire. Another improvement would be a better heating element to heat more thoroughly. Overall, I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a small stovetop looking fireplace to boost a room’s overall atmosphere and provide a little extra heat to those cozy moments at home. ... show more

We've used these for 3 years in our small t.v. room. Heats well, our cats love it, they think their laying in front of a real fireplace. NEVER leave it running when you leave home, and we don't let it run when we're sleeping. Just for safety reasons. We love ours.

Absolutely perfect but you need a very long Philips screwdriver to screw legs on. They are extremely difficult to reach and a pair of strong hands are necessary. Afterwards you will find this heater delightful, quiet, beautiful flame pattern. I have an older model with a lousy switch for temperature control that goes on & off about 5 times before it actually turns off the heat. This one has a much better electronic switch that works the way it should. I am running it all day in a large family room in a cold time in Central West Florida. It is heating at the 1500 or high watt lever for about 30 minutes, then turned down to 1000 and it keeps my large area at about 70 degrees and is off more than on. I find this device well made, beautiful looking. It also has open side large vents and the fire looks absolutely real with flams from anywhere! The fire itself is as bright as you could want it, and is also adjustable with a high quality control like the thermostat uses. The switches light up so you know which mode is on and the device that scrolls for flame is quiet and unheard with no squeaking or rolling sounds. It is almost impossible to hear the fan blowing and is extremely quiet even only 6 feet away. This will be a good heater for the large area I use daily and the older one will be places in the master bedroom. I also told my boss at work and he will buy 2 of these; one for his office and 1 for mine. At 36 degrees outside you will never know it in this home and I am very happy with Duraflame design. Bought less than 1 year ago and it already quit. It is not run constantly either. We usually turn it on for night time use in bedroom in winter months and turn it off in morning. Two days ago I entered bedroom and something smelled odd. I thought it was heater which had only been run about 3 times this winter. So I shut if off since night temps were not going too low. Last night I went to turn it on and the 1500 watt choice would not turn on no matter how high I adjusted the temp. The flicker flame wasn't working either. My only choice left for heat was the 1000 watt button. Real bummer. Only 1 winter season of use and it's done. I though DuraFlame was better than this!! ... show more
