    • Nice, big tree
This is a pretty big cat tower. I had to move out a chair from my family room to make a space for it. There are plenty of levels for cats to use—three top platforms, two cat caves, and assorted shelves and poles for cats to jump around and scratch on. Some of the posts have sisal rope wrapping, which my cat seems to like. It’s not a super squishy padded cat tree, but everything is covered with soft fabric, and you can add your own padding to the caves if your cat likes that. Being a former outdoor stray, my cat prefers sleeping on harder surfaces, so this is all right by him. He’s currently sacked out on the top of the highest cave and seems to be pretty content with this situation. Oh, and if your cat’s like mine, he will appreciate the packing box as much as the cat tree. I let him play with it until he was tired of it before I threw it out. By the way, the packing box is pretty small for the size of the finished tree — I can’t believe they got all those parts in there. The instructions are actually very good. I had no problems assembling this by paying close attention to the assembly order and the parts and part numbers. The hardware comes pre-sorted in sealed, numbered bags so there isn’t any confusion as to which part is which, and the numbers on the bags match the numbers in the instructions. The instructional drawings are clear and easy to understand. You can easily put this together by hand with the included tool, as I did, but it will go much quicker with a power screwdriver with an allen wrench fitting. The only difficulty I had was getting the screws through the fabric as the holes are cut just a tad too small and I had to work and stretch them a bit to get the screws to go through. Also it’s a chore lining up the holes in the platforms with the holes in the posts and screwing through both layers. I found it was easier to poke the allen wrench through the top hole (because it’s smaller than the screw) and use that to find the hole in the post underneath, get everything lined up and then put the screw in. But that’s the only difficulty I had. I’d say it took me maybe an hour or two to put this together. Not bad at all. It is a little wiggly near the top, so make sure you have all the screws tightened down as tight as you can. There is a strap and screw/anchor set for anchoring it to the wall, which I think is a good idea, and I will do that once I try this out in my house to find the best location for the tree. I’m happy with the quality and size of this product at the current listed price. It’s certainly cheaper than I can get at my local pet store. The market is flooded with cheaply made disposable cat trees, and I have had a number of these. Usually, the materials are cheap, and the design is lacking. This one fits the bill of a small cheap cat tree but does a better job than most of trying to overcome its deficiencies. As far as size goes, this is a small or medium cat tree, considering its design. The weight of the box was the first thing to surprise me. Looking over the materials after opening the box, I could tell this cat tree used heavier-weight materials, including an extra amount on the base. The overall design is acceptable, but there are a few issues with ease of assembly due to the carpet and not solid sides. The design did have a solid lip on the top perch, which is great, and the two top perches had a washer used to reinforce the mounting. The instructions were very well written and easy to understand. All the metal hardware was separated in their own packaged spots, which was very nice when trying to find specific parts without them being spread out loose. Even though the materials are of decent quality and the design is not too bad, there are a few drawbacks. The first and most important thing is that even though they use heavier board material, the base is still too small to keep the cat tree from being pushed over by some cats. If the base were wider than the top, it would definitely help with this issue. Second, while the materials are good, they are not great and show wear quicker than some other better quality trees. Finally, it has a chemical smell that will dissipate over a little time. It does not seem to bother the cats, but you can smell it when you walk by until it has time to off gas. All in all I am satisfied with this cat tree. As far as cheaply made smallish cat trees it will work ok. ... show more

I love how sturdy this cat tree is. My old one rocked so much when my cats run up and down it that it made me nervous. This one is super sturdy! I was a little concerned that it would sway a lot too, since the tree has three posts at the top that are not connected together, but they don't sway at all. The plush fabric is really soft and thick and I think it seems that it will last a long time. The padding on the highest perch has a nice "pillow" for the cats to curl up and take a nap and have a little support to lean against. There are a lot of parts and screws. The instructions were fine once you figured out the very first step. I couldn't tell which pillar went where, so I loosely attached the pieces, built the next level, and then put it on top to see if it matched the diagram. Once I had the second level on the top, I was able to rearrange the base pillars to the correct positioning and secure them tightly. The two cat "condos" are soft sided and the most challenging part for me was getting the 4 support pillars inside and finding the holes for the screws to secure them. The cloth on the lower "condo" was sewn a little off and puckers a little and doesn't fit properly. You only need the included alan wrench to put it together. This cat tree has given my kitties hours of fun. The balls have attached bells and is on a stretchy line, so it has quickly become my kitten's favorite toy. My old cat tree had three levels and my older cat sometimes just wants to chill and lay around in peace and look outside. My kitten goes into "terror mode" and play attacks my older cat. The older cat would hiss at her to tell her that she wasn't in the mood. With this cat tree, there are so many levels and activities for the kitten that my older cat can relax on a top perch and doesn't stress out and hiss at the kitten even when she is a level below playing with the bells. I think because my older cat can hear the kitten and knows that she is not coming up to attack. This has brought so much peace to the house and the two of them get along much better now.
