I purchased this slide topper awning to replace the topper for my 2005 Four Winds Class C Motorhome. After viewing a few YouTube videos, I was convinced that I could do it myself and save big bucks. I had heard quotes of much as $1,000 for material and installation and I was able to get the materials for $66 and do it myself (with the help of my 51 year old daughter and 25 year old grandson). I am 82 years old am a stroke survivor so I pretty much supervised the installation. I was able to remove the old awning by myself with no problem. Installing the new one was a little more challenging. Even though I put wd40 on both slides it was still a chore to pull the awning on. That's where the grandson was helpful. By the way, when you have the awning off is a good time to spray the rubber seals with 3X Chemistry Seal Saver. You can order that on Amazon too. The most important place to spray is the part that attaches to the RV so that as the slide goes in and out, the seal go back and forth. Hope that makes sense. ... show more

The product works! And there are a lot of YouTube videos for instructions. However, we followed the arrows in the sticker, it has very difficult to put the awning bar side in, we had to make near 70lbs of force to slide it in... I thought it would tear... My advice is to put the shiny part up, ignore the sticker and take a look at the polycord, mine were not he same size, I just discovered in the next day πŸ˜… ... show more

Seems to be made of sturdy fabric. Guide cord was bigger than the one it was replacing, had to remove it and use old one.

The only redeeming qualities about this topper is the price and fast delivery. The actual topper material is decent, but the construction is poor. First off, this is stitched and not welded plastic on the ends. This makes it more likely to wear out and split at the wall when the thread rots out (the roller not as big of concern because it is wrapped and held upon itself with tension). The other problem with stitching is when you trim it the stitches start to lift and you will need awning tape to secure the ends where you trimmed. I would recommend it even on the non trimmed end because the stitches aren't great and once they lift they will keep opening over time. The last issue is the dowel on the roller side is not the right diameter for AE / Dometic. It is much bigger diameter (there is a smaller diameter for the roller and larger for the wall - this fabric on the smaller diameter side is much larger than the small diameter on OEM, the wall dowel is the proper diameter on these). Despite lube I could not get it to feed. A small scrap piece I could feed with some effort. I finally cut the dowel out of my old topper, pulled the dowel from the new one, and then inserted the old one in the new fabric. If I had done this from the start it would have saved a lot of frustration. If you need it in a pinch or don't need it to last like forever, these are fine with modification. I would recommend ensuring you have welded and not stitched fabric though. ... show more
