  • The Best PS4 Controller! Thumbsticks Have Been Fixed!
This review is for the Urban Camouflage version of the DualShock4. I have been using this controller for about 6 months now and it is still in perfect shape. Sony has corrected the thumbstick issue where the rubber would rub off, crack and basically wear out quickly. This controller does not have that issue and they now use a completely different stronger material for the thumbsticks, yet they still feel great and have good grip. The color of the controller also does not show dirt and grime easily which is another plus. I also own a Xbox One and the Xbox One controller feels very cheap compared to the DualShock4. Like the Xbox One and 360 controllers, you can also use the DualShock4 with your gaming PC, but as of writing this review it requires a simple to use program called DS4Windows. Overall Sony has made the DualShock4 into a controller that is just as good or better than the Xbox 360 controller, which many say is the best controller ever designed. PROS -Fantastic quality -Feels perfect in the hand -Thumbstick issue has been fixed -Has a long range -Works with some PS3 games -Works for PC gaming with use of a simple program -Urban Camouflage looks sexy CONS -Battery life can be shorter when using the headphone port. ... show more

  • Aesthetically pleasing PS4 controller & lower price than others...
I've always enjoyed the feel of the PS controllers, and the DS4 upped the ante. I think the preference of controller & system choice is subjective to the end user, so I will leave that out of this review. The subject line says it all, this controller is aesthetically pleasing. I think the urban camo look goes well with the matte grey/black touchpad, buttons, and trackpad. Other than that it's your standard dual shock controller. The initial feeling the controller sticks have is standard with all PS4 controllers; it's great while it lasts but will wear away with due time. (I've seen other reviewers comment that new controllers feel slick or something, this is what I'm referencing..) If you keep your hands clean maybe, and just maybe, you can retain that sweet, sweet new controller stick feeling for a little longer. Also - big factor here - this was $50 new & AMZ prime elig. when i bought it. This is $15 USD less than it retails for at Gamestop (as of 23.DEC.14). Note - The controller does not come with a cord. Since initial pairing to the PS4 is a wired process, make sure you have one lying around. ... show more

  • Works with Windows 7, wired and wireless (with Bluetooth)
So I bought this controller for the specific intent of connecting it to my Windows 7 PC and playing GTA 5. In all, the controller works splendidly, is rock solid and seems to be of high quality construction. My only complaint with the physical design of the device is that the control sticks quickly get slick under my thumbs, and become difficult to control with precision. An important note to anyone who is buying this controller and intends to connect it via Bluetooth to their Windows 7 PC - it's not an easy process! It can be done, and once it's working you'll have no further problems, but getting that initial connection is a very difficult endeavor. There are a few websites with instructions on how to make the connection happen, so just do a few Google searches and try the different methods you find until you can get it to work. Keep in mind, if your computer isn't Bluetooth capable, you'll have to buy a USB Bluetooth adapter as well. I use a Kinivo Bluetooth 3.0 dongle that works just fine, though the range is quite poor. ... show more

  • Improvements on the PS3 controller, but wears out sooner
After about two months of use, this controller is still working well. I picked this in the camo version. It's my third PS4 controller as I've already gone through two other controllers since I got my Playstation 4 on launch day. The first controller went out at about the 1 year mark. In games the buttons just stopped working. Although it would still work fine for running Netflix. The other controller I just plain wore out. There's something in these controllers that after so much pressing of the joysticks, they start to have glitches. You'll be trying to run in game and suddenly joystick will act like you pressed it the opposite direction. A Google search for my controller's problem brought up hundreds of conversations online where other people had the same issues. It appears to be a similar glitch PS3 controllers can get, but the PS4 controller is a LOT harder to fix on your own. I opened mine up and cleaned it out with some canned air. This fixed the glitching controller for about 2 weeks, then it started again. So I just ordered a new one. I'm two months into using this one and it's just about "broken in" enough to play well with in online matches without the controls feeling brand new and stiff. For as much as these cost, I wish they lasted as long as the PS3 controllers did. PS3 controllers would several last years. I like the design and how the controller feels in hand. It feels a tiny bit bigger than the PS3 controllers, which I find makes the easier to grip. And the earphone jack right in the controller is both a blessing and a curse. I love that I can just throw on a pair of earbuds and plug in right into the handset and play online, without disturbing others in the room. But at the same time, gone are the days where everyone who had a mic in a COD lobby was using a Turtle Beach with good sound. Now everyone plugs in whatever earphones they have that also have a mic in them, and online matches are played with constant buzzing of feedback from various earbuds with mic in them. It didn't help that Sony sent out horribly cheap earbuds that make that buzzing feedback sound with their systems for everyone to use online. Thank goodness for the mute feature. All in all I like the PS4 controller. In some ways it better than the PS3 controllers. But these seem to wear out sooner. If Sony can make the PS3 controllers like tanks that last forever, I'd hope they could do the same with their PS4 controllers that cost even more. Crossing my fingers that this third controller lasts me longer than my previous two. ... show more
