Too bad I have to put them behind my door panel and don’t have my doors fiberglassed cause the grills these speakers come with are probably the coolest of any speaker I’ve ever had. And these things are like a million times stronger than the SKAR 8” mids I had in my doors

In my retirement I started to build and design my own speakers again, outraged at the cost of speakers in the 'audiophile' world where nothing is toooooo expensive!! Yeah, you could say I am one of those guys but I don't fall for all the BS those expensive manufacturers bragg about. I am using this speaker as a midrange and of course as a tweeter. I opened the speaker up and got rid of that cheap 1st order crossover and wired in a 2nd order 300 Hz High Pass, 2nd order 4500 Low Pass and a 3rd order 4500 Hz HP for the tweeter. I also added a balanced attenuation circuit (aka L-pad) using premium high power resistors. I placed a 14 dB attenuation pad on the tweeter to better balance the midrange and high frequencies to my liking after an hour of listening (I've built and designed at least 10 speakers in the past few years). I'm sure the attenuation will change after it fully breaks-in - about 100 hours for the mid and 50 for the tweet. The speaker is being used in an OB (open baffle) configuration and sits on my bass cabinet (2x10 in diametrically opposed configuration). I like a 'live' sound - not bright but forward sounding - I base my voicing on the 2000+ concerts I've attended and I was all over the place taking photos - on the stage, behind the stage and of course in front - the very, very front. I worked for CBS records as a photographer and the photo editor of a music magazine throughout the '70s. I'm really liking what I am hearing and these 'cheap' speakers are very impressive.
