This type of edge finder is indispensable if you have a manual milling machine. The Dreyoo edge finder comes in a polycarbonate case (which is a little bulky) and right away I noticed the superb surface finish. It really looks like a good quality tool. I compared it to a Japanese edge finder from a well-known brand that costs about 30% more. From my observations, the Dreyoo has only one working end (the .200" diameter straight tip shown in the pictures) while the Japanese tool has 2 working ends. The other end is pointed, and might be useful for locating scribed lines or very small grooves, but the vast majority of times you will be using the straight end. The Japanese tool moves with a bit less force, but in my testing I did not find this to affect it's function. I measured the tip of each tool, and found the Dreyoo to be 0.2001", or one ten-thousandth over the stated diameter. The larger diameter on the tip is advertised at 0.375", and it measured 0.3744", or 6 tenths under. I don't believe the larger diameter is intended for locating workpieces, however, since the Japanese tool measured a full 0.003" under it's stated diameter. The smaller cylindrical tip of the Japanese tool measured exactly 0.2000". I used each tool to locate a workpiece, and found them both to be well within their stated tolerances of 0.0005" accuracy/repeatability. This level of tolerance is adequate for most operations in a manual milling machine. Overall I think this is a good tool for the price, especially if money is tight. It's also nice to have a few of these around the shop in case one gets misplaced or broken, since they do get used so often. Even if you just want an inexpensive spare edge finder, this would be a good option, but it works well enough to be your go-to. ... show more
