  • Great saw for very light duty craft work.
As an artist I got this to cut Eva foam. It does an awesome job. It can cut 1.5 inch foam with no problem, either straight or radius. Also any foam core or thin wood under 1/8 inch. Also works great with thin plastic 1/8 in or less. As a general building contractor this tool wouldn't last 10 seconds on a job site. This is a very light duty tool. Best used for fine work on thin materials or work with soft materials. Several reviews have posted that the blade isn't tight and that it is hard to cut straight lines. This tool isn't designed for that, frankly neither is a high dollar scroll saw. The blade is flexible for tight turns not stiff for rip cuts. Wish it came with the guide fence. Would also be nice if the table itself could pivit like a normal scroll saw. Unit is very quite if tightly attached to a base. If you are looking to do some type of production work or lots of wood cutting then this tool would be a terrible choice. ... show more

  • It's a great little saw for the price and it works well.
I bought this Dremel MS20-01 saw back in February. I finally broke it out and started using it. I love this little saw it's compact and cuts really well for the price. I had a Craftsman didn't like it so I bought a Jet it was okay but I sold it. This little saw fits my needs. You need to take your time and don't force your work and it will do the job. If you cut a lot of thick hardwood this may not be the saw you need. I was cutting 3/4" pine jigsaw puzzle pieces and it did the job quickly and neatly. The blades available gives you a good selection even though it does not take the pin-less blades. I have a lot of Dremel Tools and I have never been disappointed. Once again a great tool for a small shop like mine! ... show more

  • Nice little saw
For the price, the saw is OK. There are advantages and disadvantages of the product of course. Its very light and portable. I love that I can mount it to almost any table top. Its the quietest power tool in my shop and it's good at making detailed cuts, however, I wouldn't recommend trying to cut hardwoods with this (unless Dremel makes higher quality blades for this someday). When cutting, I notice the blades would bend a little as I'm guiding the work piece through. One blade actually snapped and hit me in the face. I thank God I had my protective eye wear on! Several blades got stuck in the wood I was cutting and when trying to remove them, the blade was damaged beyond use. I did notice that the blades will break easier if you don't hold what your cutting steady--allow your piece to vibrate too much while the blade is cutting will make your blade break for sure (and that's understandable! ) changing the blades wasn't always easy either. Though, with close examination, the types of blades can be distinguished, Dremel still should label them. Its such an unnecessary waste of time. Also, the blades are difficult to find! Places like The Home Depot or Lowe's has an entire section dedicated to Dremel tools, attachments, and accessories yet the blades for this saw are not sold there. From my research, they can only be purchased online and it wouldn't be an issue of the cost to ship them wasnt so high! On some sites, the shipping exceeds the value of the blades. Overall I give the machine 4 stars. But the blades, I give 2 stars. I think the product perfect for beginners, even with its flaws. Start here if you can't afford the more expensive tools. I hope Dremel makes blades that are more durable in the future because the poor quality blades used now takes away so much from the actual product. ... show more

  • Easy-to-use...
This tool is great. Everyone was complaining about the noise, yes it is noisy. To overcome this problem I clamped two hard rubber sheets about a 1/4" to each side of the clamps. It didn't stop all the noise but it helped.it

  • Ease and convenience of use
I bought this product fully knowing that it was for hobby purposes only..specifically small projects that needed a small tool. Product so-far has exceeded my expectations in terms of durability, cutting strength and ease of use. Very simple process to set-up and it's ready for use...even better, the ease of moving this tool from room to room and it's ready to cut. I use this product for small projects cutting plastic, metals and wood. Recommend you purchase the various blades (metal, wood and plastics) for the product your using it for. Changing the blades is no problem and once changed, have had no problem with the blades remaining in place and securely fastened. Again, this is a hobby tool. Dremel products are durable and this will probably last a long time. ... show more

  • so I know what a top of the line scroll saw "feels" like. This saw is *not* a Hegner
I purchased this saw to use as a small quiet "scroll saw" for cutting out small parts for model ships. I have a full size Hegner, so I know what a top of the line scroll saw "feels" like. This saw is *not* a Hegner. If you accept that, and and use this saw for light duty precise sawing it seems to be a great little saw. I attempted to saw a 5/8ths piece of pine, and while the saw will cut it without stalling, it is very difficult to cut straight precise lines. Working with 1/4 inch basswood, the saw is pretty precise and cuts without effort. The result was straight enough that after a quick buff with sandpaper I had a very good glue joint. It is quiet (about as loud as a sewing machine) and clamped in its "table" the vibration is minimal (for s scroll saw). Out of the box, the table is flat and the blade is perpendicular to the table surface resulting in a nice square cut. Clamp it to a sturdy table top and you are ready to go in minutes. Changing blades is very easy, but the blade tension is not adjustable. It only takes pinned blades so forget using jeweler's saw blades or pin-less scroll saw blades. The on/off switch is a bit stiff, and when the saw is mounted in the table I find it uncomfortable to turn on and off. I really think this unit should be used with a simple on/off foot switch (dead man switch). I have used this saw for two and a half years and it still works great. ... show more
