I purchased this for use with my polished stainless pizza pans so as not to scar them up with a different type cutter, such as a wheel. The plastic "spatula shoe", as the manufacturer calls it, won't scratch just about anything you care to cut pizza on. Scizza cuts cleanly and quickly through every pizza I've tried it on, from soft croissant crust to brittle thin crust. It supposedly does just as well with deep dish, and I reckon it would, but I haven't tried that, so I can't comment there. The blades are quality German stainless steel. I have yet to experience rust on any part of mine, including the spring, and it is several years old. The blades are VERY sharp, so you must be careful when cleaning. I failed to exercise adequate caution during my first cleaning and sliced a finger. As for the plastic shoe helping with lifting/serving of slices, meh... The blade does the gripping and there is little roll to worry about, at least with the size slices I make (8 count). The shoe might possibly maybe perhaps help keep a slice from doing a complete 90° flip on you and falling off, but if I were dealing with slices that soft and wide, I'd at least keep a hand poised under it, just in case. I haven't experienced any problems with the handle lock, but then I typically leave mine open and just laying on a clean paper towel waiting for the next pizza. If you throw yours in a drawer, you'll probably want to lock them down. Due to my limited use of the lock, I can't speak to its durability. I can say it works just fine for at least several dozen cycles, but beyond that YMMV. Considering the quality, utility and price point, I give it a full 5 stars. ... show more

I saw this in Sur La Table and, while intrigued, felt it might be a useless gadget. When I found myself in the market for a new pizza cutter recently, I saw these again on Amazon and decided to take a chance. So glad I did. These specially-designed scissors are sheer genius, and have eliminated my multi-product approach to cutting I used to use for our weekly homemade pizza nights. Inside of a combo of wheel and kitchen shears, to cleanly cut what the wheel didn't but are too short to use solely on their own, and, occasionally, also an additional server to pick up. Instead, these handy scissors with the bottom protector do all three, neatly and cleanly every time. Slip the extra-long scissor blades under the pizza and snip away and, then when you're done, just lift out the piece using the small support of the bottom piece, which also works to protect non-stick surfaces from scratching. Voila, no more burnt fingers, ripped or dumped toppings (a classic pizza wheel fail) and perfect pizza pieces every time. My only tiny gripe would be that the awkward shape makes these a little hard to store; finding a spot both long enough and tall enough to accommodate, as well as not damage the bottom plastic. Though I will say it's nice that they lock together at the handle to protect the blades when not in use. It may be a bit of a one-trick pony, but it's totally worth it if you make homemade pizza as often as we do. ... show more
