  • My Go-To Strings Now?
Like many bass players, I've tried SO many different brands and types of strings and I've also listened to SO many YouTube videos. I like a deep, punchy well articulated sound and I just couldn't find that sound ... until maybe now with the DR Sunbeams. I put them on a custom 51P, a Squire VM P and a heavily modded Squire VM J. Even the B string rings out nice and true. It's only been about a week or so but I just might replace the HiBeams on my MM's with these Sunbeams. They sound great on rosewood and maple fretboards so try them out. ... show more

  • Plush, Pliable and Phat
I always liked the supple, pliable feel of Thomastik Infeld bass strings, especially the JF344. They are easy on your fingers and on your frets and make it easy to help you to play faster. True, they don't offer a lot of snap and they can be rubbery feeling when you really dig in, but for most of the old school rock and blues I play, they are perfect. They also record extremely well. Put a set on a Danelectro DC3 and be prepared to be amazed. The biggest problem is they are expensive. Enter the DR Sunbeams, which are round wound, not flat wound. I had been looking for another string that would have that same familiar supple feeling as the TI JF344 strings, but with a little more snap for my jazz bass. I found it in these Sunbeams. They are nearly as pliable as the TI JF344 strings, but have more zing in the mids and highs, and they cost about a fourth of what the TIs do. I'm sold. If DR made these exact strings in a flatwound, they might put TI out of business. ... show more

  • Bright sound!
When God changes the strings on his base he uses DR sunbeams, period.

  • One of the Best Nickel strings I've had
As it says in the description: smooth, flexible, and bright with edges and some zings. It is really taking you out of the string fatigue and pain from stainless steel and other nickel strings in the market. Ernie ball slinky and daddario NXL are considered less smooth and stiffer compare to sunbeam. If you have light touch or looking for super smooth feeling on fingers, get this one and slap them on your bass! The only issue of this string set is the B string is kind of sloppy on low action, you can set to a high action to perfectly solve it out, but that will compensate some comfort on your finger. ... show more

  • THE round wound string for fretless bass!
Not a thing to dislike. Beautiful nickel plated tone. Long lasting bright sound that mellows gracefully. Easy on frets. Absolutely wonderful on fretless bass. The .125 B string is glorious. Be sure and follow the directions on the package when installing.

  • Great feel, nice and flexible. Maybe I got a bad set?
DR Sunbeams are recommended by many bassists. I was very interested in trying a more flexible string so I bought a set of these. E, A, D, and G were terrific - the B string was horrible. I sent a sound file to the bassist that recommended these strings, and he suggested that the B string may have a defect. I tried contact DR, but they never replied to my web inquiry. After a few weeks trying to adjust my pickup height and a few other tips provided on the web, I purchased a new set from another manufacturer. I followed the DR installation instructions, which happened to be mostly identical to how I installed all strings, crimping the end to prevent the outer wrap from sliding along the core. I don't know what else I could've done differently, it isn't rocket surgery. I don't mind if a set of strings didn't work out, but I wish DR would've at least contacted me to offer a replacement string so I could see if I really liked them. Oh well. ... show more

  • Fresh, bright–but not obnoxious
I like a bright bass string, but some kinds are pretty obnoxious for the first week or two. Not Sunbeams. They sound fresh, but full. Bright, but not zingy. I could put these on my Warwick 5 and do a recording session the next day. In fact I probably will do just that next time I'm heading into the studio. ... show more

  • Love how good they sound on my old P bass and a newer Ibanez 5str
I’ve used DR Bass Strings for a long time, usually buying the Blk Beauties or Red Devils. I’m one of the audio guys at a larger church and maintain the guitarist gear. One of the bassist at church wanted std looking nickel strings so I bought these for his Ibanez 5str. Totally blown away what the 4str set did to the tone of my ‘77 P bass also. Bright but still warm like you’d expect with DR’s. Think I’ll try the whole line of strings now and hear for myself. Price was lower than expected too! I’d purchase these again. No Doubt. ... show more
