I've have health issues lately that prompted me to become more active. Unfortunately I live in Florida where the outside temp stays just below the boiling point, so we turned our enclosed sun room into a small gym. However, being surrounded by windows in the Florida summer, its impossible to keep the room below 80 degrees. I didn't want to super cool the rest of the house, and it just needs a little help to get to comfortable temps. I purchased this Dr Prepare 8000 BTU unit to help make it happen. The unit has a very small footprint, maybe a foot square, doesn't require a lot of startup amps getting the compressor started so it doesn't pop the breaker. Is small enough to maneuver anywhere in the room, and is VERY QUIET. What more could you ask for? I'll tell you APP CONTROL!. This was the only unit in it's price range that is able to be controlled over WiFi, plus it can be set up on a timer to turn on/off when you want it. It uses the Smart Life app ( I just happened to already have for other items). This way, if I follow my setup routine, it is already precooled and ready for me, or if I'm leaving work, and maybe want to hit the treadmill once I get home, I'll turn it on remotely, and once I get home, the room is perfect. Now will this unit cool a large room all by itself? No, not at 8000 BTU's. But if you have a room that needs a little assistance, this unit is perfect. Small, cute, quiet, and effective. Typically I'm not happy about purchases through Amazon. This seller is a devoted person dedicated to making things happen. This will be my second machine coming and it's within a day. The unit has many features. And works better than my old 12000 but unit I have in the wall. I wish I had gotten a second one sooner. It's almost too cold. But that's okay. It doubles as a fan. After coming home in 90-100 degree heat. It's great to walk into a cold home without the crazy electric bill. ... show more

MEASURE WINDOW!! don't make the mistake I did and measure your window. I believed it would be adjustable to any window but mine was too small. I ended up making it work despite my mistake. At first, it wasn't working very well. but after an hour or two, it was producing cold air consistently. Even when I turn it off and then on it makes cold air almost immediately so just bear with it for an hour. Assembly is simple and directions are pretty easy to understand. The room it was put in was pretty small and cooled down fast but I'm not sure how it would hold up in a bigger space. 1st, I always check reviews before a purchase. Maybe I got a bad unit, but it didn't work all that great. I live in a 2 room apartment & this thing didn't cool off my bedroom. The only reason I decided on a portable ac is because I'm getting up in age & it's easier than lifting 1 into a window. I contacted customer service-joke. They told me to make sure it was vented out a window & on cool. Sure, cuz I'm a complete idiot & didn't think to do that. Then they replied to tell me they couldn't reply because of 4 days of holiday. Really? The cover over the filter had to be held on with tape or it just fell off. It has a very noticeable hum. It was not quiet at all. The thing just sucked. I went & bought a 5000 btu window unit for $100 & am happy with. Bedrooms nice & cool. So how come an 8000 btu portable couldn't do it??? It was junk. Sent back & waiting for a refund. The only thing I liked, I could turn it on with my phone. Not worth the price. ... show more

This unit cools my 16'x 12' living room nicely, (85° outside 72-74° inside). Only issue is the tank fills quick on this one, but it is great at cooling and removing humidity. I keep a jug near it for quick emptying of water tank. (Edit review 06-13-24), I just bought a condensation pump ($67), to hook up to the drain, I simply ran the hose out the same window as the exhaust hose. NOTE: Most of the reviews for this product are people that received it for FREE. Ok, so far...this thing is definitely cooling down my apartment. It's been running for a couple of hours because I wanted to see what it could do. Being in Colorado where central AC is an upgrade, I needed this AC for keeping my kitchen cooled down for my Summer time baking business. And it's still cold/rainy here for the most part. It starts to heat up real good in June. I'm fairly certain this is probably a used unit. It's letting off a cigarette smell that I can't seem to detect from the unit and I am a non-smoker. I smell the air and up close, I don't smell it. I'm gonna give it a couple of days to decide if I need to trade it out because I definitely can't cope with it. I'm trying to be optimistic, but it's pretty strong. Setting it up was easy, connecting to wifi was simple and overall- I like the unit. UPDATE: 5/18/2024 I love this unit. Still has a smell on/off of cigarette that comes from the back of the unit but I'm hoping with time that it fades. I like that I can control the unit from my phone if I want to cool off the apartment before we head home from a full day at the ball fields. It also can be connected to Smart devices.
