The gear lock tool is made with high precision and little play. So it may take a little nudging to get the two parts in position between the sprockets. If you're replacing the phasers you can also hold both sprockets together with the gear lock tool and slide everything into position on the camshafts. The crank lock tool location is seen in the photo. On the left is the exhaust pipe coming down from the catalytic converter. On the right you can see the front facing engine mount.

The kit made replacing the Timing Belt on my 2014 Chevy Cruze 1.8L so much easier. I used only the camshaft-sprocket locking tool + the transmission locking tool and that was enough to keep everything firmly locked at TDC (top-dead-center). This also negated having to remove the valve cover. The camshaft locking blocks required a lot of persuasion and effort to get installed - so much that I thought they were too big and incorrectly machined. Otherwise, a great kit. Hopefully I’ll be able to use it on the next timing belt change at 200k miles.
