  • Fixes Stability System disabled and Service 4wd messages as well as lights on 4wd switch and traction control light.
I can't give 5 stars until I know the unit fixes the issues in the long run. Bought for my 2006 Yukon XL as I understood it was the part that I needed to resolve a myriad of issues I was seeing with the Yukon 4wd system. Specifically I got a 'Service 4 wheel drive" and "Stability system disabled" message from my car. Further the traction control system light lit up on my console and the lights on the 4wd switch were all off (no light indicating which drive system I was in and pushing buttons did nothing). All of these led me to an internet chase to find the issue, found that there is a Technical Service Bulletin for a contact failure within this encoder motor. I purchased and after installing in my Yukon the Service 4wd, and Stability system disabled resolved themselves, the traction control light turned off and the switch lights and function returned to normal. Best $150 fix I've had in a long time. ... show more

  • Important tip to make sure of correct part alignment!
Installed on my 2005 Chevrolet Avalance Z71. Installed 2 months ago and have had no problems since. Suspected this part needed to be replaced after reading multiple Avalanche forums about faulty 2WD/4WD systems. Had already replaced the dashboard selector. Then late last Fall, I noticed that none of the 2WD/4WD options would like up at all - not even 2WD and could not get truck to shift into 4 HI or 4 Low. Installed fairly easy with one caveat you should be ready for: This part is shipped in Neutral. My truck was in 2WD, so the new part would not line up with the transfer case when it came time to install. If you have followed service manual instructions to this point, your battery is disconnected. Plug the new part into the harness, and then put something under it to support it's weight so that it doesn't hang freely. Then reconnect your battery, turn the ignition to ON, and select the gear your truck is currently in (2WD in my case). You should hear a click or something like that from the part. Go back under your truck and once you've selected the correct gear, it should snug right up to the transfer case with absolutely no forcing. The male part on the transfer case has just enough play in it to help it line up if needed. IF YOU ARE USING A HAMMER OR MALLET, YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! Also, read several reviews that said it wasn't necessary to remove the front driveshaft. Maybe its not, but life is much easier if you do. Just make sure to chalk the alignment at the front of the driveshaft for reinstallation. That was the part I was actually most nervous about, but turned out to be no big deal at all. One other thing - Amazon recommended a gasket to be purchased with this part AC Delco #12384990. It's not even close to correct. You'll see the gasket when you remove the old part - it's a solid piece of hardened plastic. My truck is 11 years old and the original gasket was fine to keep using. I just blasted it with some brake cleaner and wiped it off really good. ... show more

  • Works, but sent not in neutral position.
The only issue I had, which was a huuuuge time waster, was the new shifter was not in the neutral position when it was mailed( the transfercase was in neutral). I spent a couple hours trying to figure it out before good ole YouTube made be realize I wasn't crazy. I could have either sent it back ooooor....take it apart. So, I took it apart and put the gear in neutral position and Boom!!!! 4wd is back! I would have given this 5 stars, but because I probably voided any warranty (if there is on) and the time it made me waste on an easy job I will not. That being said...it does work. ... show more

  • A word of advice
WARNING: DO NOT change the position of the transfer case motor to line up with your transfer case. ONLY change the position of the transfer case to line up with the motor. This part ships in neutral, if you're like me the transfer case will be in 2WD. It seems some people have gotten this to work but it caused my part not to work and I had to purchase it again from a local retailer, for $100 more, in order to get it all to work. There are no instructions provided with the part, but the amazon description does say to change the transfer case to match the motor, I just didn't read it until after the fact. Learn from my mistake. Other than the lack of physically provided instructions the second one I bought worked like a charm and so far (less than 100 miles) has fixed my SERVICE 4WD message on my 2006 Silverado Z71. ... show more

  • Fits 2006 Silverado Maxx
Fits 2006 Silverado Maxx. There is a round tag, with red print, attached to the back of the transfer case showing which model transfer case you have. Mine is a 246. A lot of 1/2ton Silverados have 246 transfer cases. Looks and fits identical to factory unit. Will have to re-use plastic gasket from original unit, as it does not come with one. The gasket is 1/8" thick plastic, so i would be suprised if you could not reuse yours. Didn't have to remove the front drive shaft, but one of the bolts is almost to close to the yoke of the front drive shaft. Stubby 15mm wrench makes it a lot easier to deal with that one bolt. The other two bolts are easy to get to. Remember to put truck in neutral and turn the shaft coming out of the transfer case to line up with splines on new motor/unit. You can turn the shaft by hand but I had to use some straight pliers and easily turn the shaft the rest of the way to get it to line up. Don't bite down hard with the pliers as you could damage the teeth on the shaft. Just enough pressure to click the shaft the rest of the way. Do not try and turn the teeth/splines on the unit itself to line up with the transfer case shaft. The unit comes in the neutral position from factory. ... show more
