The pencil is simple to use. But from my experience, be sure to sharpen the tip. The tip just crumbled when I tried to use it but was easily sharpened and did not break thereafter. The only thing I don't like is you have to retract the lead every time you place it back into the holder. There should be a groove down the holder that allows the slider to keep its position. I bought one of these several years ago at a local box retail store. I have used it hundreds of times but it finally broke. I immediately went back to buy another one but found out they no longer carry this model and the replacement is not nearly as good. So, I found this one on Amazon and immediately ordered it along with more refill pencil leads. Definitely would recommend, this pencil is awesome. Only improvement would be a better sharpener, the built-in sharpener isn't real sturdy, but does work. ... show more

    • Great pencil/ inconvenient to sharpen
This pencil does a great job marking in small areas and the hardness of the graphite is perfect. It marks easily but doesn't break easily. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the included sharpener is completely worthless and you can't use a standard sharpener as an alternative. I have to use a utility knife to sharpen it- not very convenient. Also it doesn't stay in it's holder if you lean over. I'm still glad I bought it but I wish the manufacturer would fix these problems. ... show more

Love this pencil. Very easy to use. Carrier clips easily to pocket, so always in reach (once I remembered not to lay it down like a flat pencil). Good hard lead does not break easily. Even with use the pencil makes a thin enough line, but the attached sharpener can bring back the point if needed. Easy to mark hard to reach places. Comes with 12 refills protected in a rotating cylinder. One of the options here is refills only, but for the price, just get another pencil that comes with the refills. I bought two more for friends who are professional woodworkers and they like it too. ... show more

I've purchased two of these from a local big-box store and not Amazon, however, I wanted to share my experience with it. It's my go-to pencil for doing anything from framing to woodworking, but no matter how much I like it, it does have a couple of shortcomings. First, after only a few weeks of use, the sharpener in the cap no longer works. I made sure the lead path was clear and even tried adjusting the blade, but it still doesn't sharpen. I did send an email to the manufacturer over a month ago, but as of this writing have not received a response. The second problem is that the pencil uses friction to secure it in its sheath, and on many occasions, I have spent a lot of time looking for it. This is also the reason I've had purchased two of these as I lost the first one. There are ways to sharpen the lead using a small #2 sharpener, but the results are inconsistent and you have to carry the sharpener with you because the point dulls pretty fast. ... show more

Great maker tool, I've used it a bunch, haven't needed to sharpen it yet, seems like the lead will last a very long time. I just need to train myself not to set it down and to wear it on me.
