  • Not perfect, but works if you don't have a Torque wrench
The media could not be loaded. I picked this up as a secondary item as an afterthought to have for when I need a quick torque spec for any automotive work I'm doing. I have a torque wrench, but I have 3 vehicles and an RV, and wanted something that was easy to carry and use for camping. This seemed to fit the bill. I haven't given it a lot of work yet, but I did test it out a bit and here are my thoughts: First - the modes on it are a bit confusing, but once you set it up, it's pretty straightforward. I used the PtoP mode with the memory function so that I could 'freeze' the readout on the result I hit. In the 'trace' mode, the unit shows you the active torque, but as soon as you let off the wrench, it goes back to zero. The display can be hard to see in bright sunlight (as usually is the case with all digital LED displays), so I wanted to use the memory function. The case is handy and it comes with adapters for smaller sockets (3/8 and 1/4") but I usually use the 1/2, so that's what I purchased. The instruction manual is small print and hard for old men like me to see, but I managed to be able to read it. Second - Accuracy - It claims to be fairly accurate (plus or minus a couple percent), but when I tested it with my torque wrench attached, I did have some readings that were a bit more off than a couple percent. But that might be due to the fact that my wrench was popping and I was probably going past the reading. I tested this at 60 and 80 ft-lbs set on my wrench and it hit pretty close most times, and went over once or twice (like 10-20 over). But if I measured carefully, it seemed to hit pretty close to 60 when set to 60. What I liked was the beep warning as you approach your set torque. It beeps as you get close and then you get a long constant beep when you've hit the value you've set. Makes it easy to know you've hit your torque spec without looking at the screen. I then tested it with a regular ratched, and mine has an extendable handle, so it was very easy to overtorque and pass the setting. But again, the beeps are nice to have. I don't think this would replace a torque wrench for accuracy, but it's handy to have if you don't have your Torque wrench. What I found less than great: (1) the little screw battery cap holder thingy. Mine is already stripped on one screw. This also caused the unit to shut off unexpectedly because the battery fell out of place. It's not a dealbreaker, but a better battery compartment would be nice. (2) the adjustment in ft-lbs doesn't go in 0.1 increments, it goes something like 59.8 to 60.4 to 61.2 every button push (see the video). Overall for the price, it's a decent addition to my tool arsenal when I don't have a torque wrench handy. ... show more
