Really pleased to find nice features like the temperature gauge leads (I don't remember seeing that in the pictures when I ordered it), a brass insert for the battery cover screw, beefy construction, nice case. Customer service and technical support really did a good job with this product. There is a lot of competition in this field of products and not all sellers have such capable support and have it in proper English. At the time I purchased this it was at least 10% lower in price than its very similar competitor, even more (around 30% less) than other HT208 models. ... show more

This is a decent entry level multimeter for testing electrical and electronic circuits. It has the ability to test resistance, capacitance, diodes, ac and dc voltage and amperage as well as temperature. Comes with 2 AA batteries and is ready to go. It is a good middle of rhe road meter, good for most homeowners to have around and the values it measures are within about a 4 to 6% range of a professional meters readings.     • Small and portable. Classic clamp meter operation with multimeter features can be confusing.

This clamp meter is small, light, accurate and has a ton of features. Its great if you need a portable clamp meter. This uses a True RMS calculation for AC, which is more accurate. It is nice that this level of accuracy isn't as hard to come by as it once was. The clamp and NCV detection works well. I don't care for the detection noise compared to other clamp meters I have, but that isn't important. This clamp includes a lot of multimeter features and a thermocouple, but does do in a standard clamp meter design. Navigating the different features can get confusing and the icons don't always make sense. Since the selection knob is a semicircle (common on simple clamp meters) a lot of measurement features are sub options, selectable by pressing a confusingly marked selection button. An electrician will probably want something more direct for AC work. For DC work, my exiting multimeters are easier to use. Ring out is a feature I use daily. My existing multimeters are much better at this. This clamp meter sometimes needs the probe connectors to be adjusted to ring continuity. Better probes would probably help this. When testing continuity across a large circuit, it is important that this feature works instantly and consistently, so this won't be replacing my multimeter. If you do professional electrical work, you'll want a better clamp meter. If you do professional or frequent electronics work, you'll want a better multimeter. If you are involved in both of those fields, you will want dedicated instruments for these features, not a swiss army knife. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. If you need something that does everything for some handy work or just to keep in a toolbox for infrequent use, this clamp meter is accurate, affordable, and has a lot of features. ... show more

    • Nice Multimeter, high versatility, great value

Through the years, I have seen and used electrical measurement equipment which runs the gamut of features, designed application, quality, price, etc. Since I work at a large company, my employer has highly reputable name-brand meters available for any at-work use, but for my personal measurement needs at home I look for more appropriate consumer grade units. As an often DIY home and auto maintainer and sometimes hobbyist, I have seen fit to buy inexpensive multimeters starting with old-tech analog needle and dial, up to digital (DMM) types. This is my first current clamp capable DMM, and it appears to be a sweet value. This HT206D specifies 6000 counts which means once a given range hits 6000 (or 600.0, 60.00, 6.000) any higher input needs to trade off the rightmost digit for the next range. For example, voltage around 59 would have 0.01 volts resolution (but not guaranteed more accurate than the spec), whereas, say 62 volts would have 0.1 volts resolution. The overall accuracy does not warrant finer resolution, and for the general purpose intended use, the accuracy is sufficient. Of note is that most branding I see for this model is Kaiweets. For Amazon listing, the Details shows Habotest as Manufacturer (also on the unit I received, though today's listing photo is blank for that area of the label). The DMM comes with a zippered fabric case which is protective for wear and tear, but not rugged or rigid. Also, less than expected is the included user's guide which is short of a proper manual. I'd recommending exploring the Kaiweets listings, as I was able to find a linked pdf of a full HT206D manual (which had several languages). Besides the current clamp feature, there are other capabilities I didn't have until now: Max/Min, audible tone continuity, lighted display (with lighting color relative to thresholds for caution (yellow) and danger (red)), capacitance, frequency, duty cycle, low-pass filtering, and "true RMS". (This means that the method of reading alternating current (AC) doesn't rely on the wave shape to be a pure sine to be accurate.) It also includes a worklight and non-contact voltage sensor (detector is at the top end of the stationary side of the clamp). Finally, it comes with functional, if economy, leads for probing in expected length and insulating plastic colors and a thermocouple probe which plugs in place of the test leads for the degrees F or C thermometer function. The ergonomics of the meter are great, even supporting one-handed operation for most uses. It's a compact and comfortable-to-use product. The display is clear with large reading digits and mode indicators; but spend some time with the manual to understand the "Z/F" button, which seems to cycle through subfunctions for the main rotary switch settings. Nice multimeter, a small footprint which is nice and makes it easy to carry and deal with. Includes 2 standard style testing leads, some have more options, some less. But for this meter and price, this is fair. The menus can be a little confusing to figure out at first. The small print on the manual didn't help. But the manual is decent all in all. Lots and lots of options, getting into the various menus and sub-menus. Does reads accurately. The back-lite screen comes in very handy for low light situations. Clamp is nice and sturdy while being easy to operate. All around well built and feels solid in the hand. I'm a DIY type user, not a professional. This does all I need, and more.
