Measure the Socket’s Outer Thread Diameter Use a caliper or ruler to measure the outer diameter of your lamp socket’s external thread. It should be approximately 39mm (1.54 inches). Note: This dimension should closely match the inner diameter of the lampshade ring, which is typically designed to fit snugly around sockets with 39mm threading. If your socket is significantly smaller or larger, the ring may not fit properly (e.g., too loose or unable to screw on). 2. Check the Visible Thread Height Ensure that your socket has at least 8mm (0.3 inch) of exposed outer thread above the socket base. This ensures the lampshade ring has enough space to grip and lock securely. If the thread is too short, the ring may not be able to stay in place. 3. Verify Socket Structure and Clearance Look around the socket to make sure there is no decorative trim, thick collar, or obstructive fixture part that would block the lampshade ring from rotating into place. Sockets with smooth surfaces or no outer thread are not compatible. Q1: Are these rings universal for all E26 sockets? A1: No. While they are designed for E26 medium base sockets, different lamp manufacturers use slightly different socket housings. Q2: What happens if I buy the wrong size?
