So I found very few reviews on here about adults/college kids using these. I am splitting an apartment room with someone to save rent money and needed a metal and cheap bunk bed. I never thought I would connect the word "cheap" and "bunk bed" together since any mistake made could end badly. I looked up the specs on this bunk bed and found that it more than supports our weight. I am on the bottom bunk- I weigh 190lbs and am 5'8". My roommate is 120lbs and is 5'6". The bed holds up very strong. I know it can support much more weight both on the top and bottom. Installation of this product was difficult. Alignment, tightening the screws, and TRYING to eliminate swaying were a huge headache. One of the mattress support bars was bent during shipping (there are over 30 of these small bars, so it didn't jeopardize the structural safety at all). And because of how its set up (full size mattress on bottom, twin on top), it shakes when my roommate tosses and turns. I am in no way afraid of the bed falling on me because of his weight and the obvious fact that if something is wrong, there are usually obvious warning signs. Nothing will ever just snap all at once and create a catastrophe. I would say though, that some people have anchored parts of the bunkbed to the side wall and/or ceiling to minimize as much "sway" as possible. I wish we could do this, but we cannot drill into the walls of our rental unit. A couple things to keep in mind.... Measure twice, assemble once. Read the instructions and don't do anything half-arsed. Also, if this is going to your college kid's apartment or you are a college kid yourself, don't invite your girlfriend/boyfriend to "spend the night." It will not be able to handle much stress and jostling. At least I wouldn't risk it. If this was a twin top/bottom or had a couple more supports, then I'd say don't worry about it. If this was made of thick wood and had a lot more bolts in it, I'd say go for it. But this product is strong as long as you use it to sleep on only. We also had some issues installing the guardrails as the screw alignments were off. But we managed to screw in 3/4 screws on each side so that it was somewhat safer. This price is a steal. ALSO! Make sure you buy the full mattress sold by Dorel Home Products as well. It fits perfectly on the bottom bunk and feels extremely comfortable (for a spring mattress). ... show more

Wooow. This Set is nice, and fits our needs as far as having an extra bed for the Grandkids when they cum over. The top bunk is pretty high and I have 10 ft ceilings. Now I'm getting down to it. !st the weight; this was so heavy to lift and carry and after getting it inside, we decided to just leave on the first floor instead of trying to carry it upstairs to the bedroom. 2nd the assembly; I will say it wasn't difficult to assemble, but it is very challenging if you don't pay close attention to the provided instructions. For instance, The Hinges; When applying hinges to the futon part, make sure you stand in the inside of the bed and not the outside. the hinges have R for right and L for left, so I took the approach going at from the outside and once i thought I was done, turns out I wasn't. so I had to take apart the bottom swipe the hinges. Also pay close attention to the ladder assembly as well. you can easily install them upside down. (Side note) The ladder is very uncomfortable climbing up for an Adult. They hurt your feet standing on them or climbing up. I Can't really comment on assembly time, because we were watching football along with just taking our time. If i am giving a timeline, I would say we began about 5:00 and was done around 8:30ish, but there was no rush our part and it was 4 of us. 3 doing assembling and 1 bringing parts upstairs. It was cool. So maybe you and your family should give it a go, if this is the type of bunk bed set you need. Enjoy!!!!😃 ... show more

Before I begin you need to know I'm really good at assembling furniture- so good that I'm on speed dial in my friend group to come and bail them out or to just take over from the beginning. This assembly was not really complicated but will take 2 people and *a few* hours. You will also need to know a copy things. There is a COMPLETELY MISSING STEP which will leave you scratching your head and what's really spooky is that it should be part of Step 13. By the time you have gotten there you will have the back & seat of the futon constructed. and will have attached the springs. See Photo #1 for what the spring attachment looks like- they have a L or R stamped on them and the frame sits on top for construction. - After that The directions fail to tell you that you will then attach the futon back/seat to the frame. You will do with with #9 Screws and #3 bolts.- If you do everything in order they will be the only pieces left. This will be a tiny bit tricky and you might want to set the whole thing on milk carton or have an 2 other people hold it while you install. It's also tricky b/c one of the bolts sits under the spring and you need to very careful about pulling on that spring to get to it. ---One more caution-- in step 1 you will be constructing top and bottom of the frame. The bottom [Part I} is a solid rectangle- be sure the welded part- i looks like picture frame - is INSIDE and that the two holes are on the bottom of that piece on both sides when installed. Photo #2 And lastly- there is a piece labeled U that is a heavy duty "C" clamp - ONLY install it if you want to use the bottom as a futon couch and never plan to convert it to a bed - you will not be able to convert it if these things are installed. Photo 3 All in all this is a nice sturdy piece. You will want to supervise the conversion from futon to bed and back as the catch is a pin with a heavy clip and could easily take a small finger off. The good news is it is also very sturdy and would be hard for a child to operate so unlikely to them to do it on accident. ... show more
