No box spring needed and yes, it does work with an adjustable base! However, this frame does sit low (12 inches from floor to top of rails)...10 inches to platform if you use the slats. My base has adjustable legs (or you can remove them) and sits 13.5 on the lowest setting. This frame comes with 4 inch legs so for $20 on Amazon, I swapped those out for 6 inch legs and it's perfect! The pics are showing measurements using 6 inch legs. Replacement legs are readily available in 3-12 inches of various wood tones and shapes so you can personalize this frame how you want! Not only is it beautiful, it's very good quality at a great price point. No open space in the headboard (a must in my book) so any mattress height will work (mine is 11 inches). Back of the headboard is fully lined. Platform slats are super sturdy with felt patches to ensure no squeaking. Checks all the boxes for me!! ... show more
