I've been trying my yard with shears and pruners for many years now. Kept putting off the need for a hedge trimmer as the gardeners would sometimes clean things up with theirs. Since I already had the batteries, I grabbed this from Amazon and it paid for itself the first day. Super lightweight and easy to use. Simply walk your yard and trim your trees plants and hedges in a heartbeat. Then walk back around with a rake to scoop everything up and you're done. I was really surprised to see that these shears can cut branches that are half inch thick. That saying, the ones I was cutting were still green. Not sure if they would make it through an older branch that's that thick but it wouldn't surprise me. This is also replacing my pole saw and my chainsaw as you don't have to worry about having your chain get clogged and falling off while trimming the thinner branches.     • Never put off Trimming Again!
I love the ease of use with this thing. I was able to get to places I couldnt access ever before because of cord limitations. Plus...I didn't have to worry about the cord getting in the way. The unit has more cutting reach than my previous model (another brand). It cuts boxwoods and holly readily, although with the Holly I was careful not to get to the woody branches. I also used it on weeping cherry to even out some funny looking branches. This is probably one of those tools i should have invested in a long time ago. ... show more

    • Good electric trimmer…2 downsides though
I bought this to replace two Greenworks trimmers, a 24v and a 40v both of which I’ve had a number of years. The accompanying Greenworks batteries, always pretty weak, have given up. I have several Dewalt 20v tools and batteries, so I went with that. This Dewalt trimmer is stronger than either of the other two trimmers, and trims hedges with ease, partly no doubt because it is new and the blades are their sharpest. The 20v delivers a lot of power for a long period allowing me to trim all my yard bushes with one 4-amp battery. The trimmer is fairly lightweight though final weight will depend upon which size 20v battery you use. Easy for me to handle, same for my spouse. The safety lock (thanks OSHA) is a bit cumbersome but workable, and the unit is quieter than my previous trimmers as well. So what don’t I like? The trimmer blades are 2” shorter than the previous ones, and you notice that small amount immediately. More reaching, more awkward handling with arms stretched out farther are the things immediately noticed. Lastly, the unit does NOT come with a sheath to protect the blades while not in use, and to protect anyone handling the unit. I understand this saves cost but I think this to be a foolish decision, one important enough to downgrade the rating to 4-star for this otherwise 5-star unit. Fortunately, one of blade sheaths from my previous trimmer fits adequately though it is slightly longer. You gotta wonder what bean counter thought this was a good idea, and in doing so undoubtedly got an internal promotion to the detriment of all of the consumers. Good job! Not. ... show more

    • Great hedge trimmer
Wanted one to work with my 20v battery I already had for some of my shop tools to save on the expense. This trimmer works very well and battery lasted better than expected. Was able to trim all my bushes with battery life to spare.

    • Terrific Hedge Trimmer at a Good Price
I purchased this to replace a Shindawa gas trimmer which at the time was the best and the standard for professional landscapers. My current use is more intermittent so I decided to switch to battery to eliminate the hassle of small gas engines. I used the DeWalt for several hours on Buffalo Juniper trimming and was pleasantly surprised. It is not quite as good as the Shindawa but handled well everything I needed to. Cutting power was good with a 5a battery and it lasted surprisingly long but I suspect an 8a would be better from a power perspective. The blade appeared beefy, high quality and sharp. It doesn't come with a blade guard but the blade design keeps things bigger than 3/4-1" out of the blades which is nice if you're trimming close to rocks or other objects. I have many DeWalt 20v tools and they all have been outstanding. ... show more
