I wanted a portable bandsaw primarily for things that would not fit in my metal cutting chop saw or my small bandsaw on wheels. This thing literally walked through a metal office chair I was breaking down for recycle.

Didn't need one of these years ago as I purchased one of the original Porter Cable "port-a-band" corded models over 40 years ago. It was just too much of a hassle grabbing it and then plugging it in just for a couple of random steel cuts. So TODAY it's cordless all the way! Lightweight, handy, and the built in light really helps. It's likely just as good as all of their competitors out there BUT I already have enough Dewalt 20v max tools so I kept with them to utilize the same batteries! No regrets ... show more

Absolutely beast of a machine. It has the power to do quite a lot, but don't ask for it to do more than the blades are capable of. Do your research on TPI and the intended uses for the blades, because that will be the limiting factor. With the stock blade, it rips through rebar and other mild steels pretty easily. Ok I was on the fence about this saw due to the really big price tag. I was just going to get the corded dewalt portaband because I'm not a contractor and didn't have to go cordless, I just build and repair my own stuff in my own shop. I've cut quite a bit of steel with it so far but not enough to kill a blade yet. When I say steel I mean 4"x4".500" wall and other heavy stock. Surprised me too, I would have been through 4-5 blades by now with the HF saw because of inconsistent blade speed. This thing holds the speed right where you put it and is strong as a corded tool! It hurt a little tapping the ole order button but man it was worth it! ... show more
