I am a Dewalt guy, so I gravitated to the Dewalt green rotary lasers first when I decided to buy a rotary laser. To start, why pay for green? If you are working outside in sunlight, green can be seen much better. Now to my review. This Dewalt laser is sturdy and seems reliable so far. The package gives you all you need for indoor and outdoor jobs; site stick, stud hanger, remote, laser detector etc; nice case and solid components. Here is where you need to be careful, so you buy the correct Dewalt laser for you. There is a 079 model which is $500 less; this unit does NOT have the ToolConnect Bluetooth capability. It also has a less functional laser detector that you can only view laser line by sticking your face in front of the site stick. I mistakenly bought this model. The rub comes if you do a lot of outdoor site work where you must calculate and manage slope for water run off. On the 079 model, you are left to push a button on laser or the remote to get .01% slope; so you push it ten times to get 1%. And this gets tricky as to how many times did the unit register you pushing the button; you have no ability to see your actual slope. You could go to your endpoint and calculate length x drop blah, blah, but I am lazy and I want the unit to show actual slope %. This gets more complicated if you are setting both X and Y axis slopes... When I bought the 079 model, I thought it had the ToolConnect app on my phone that allowed me to set and view the actual slope %; it doesn’t! I subsequently sent the 079 model back and bought the 080 model which has Bluetooth and the ToolConnect app. If you are doing slope work, I strongly recommend spending the extra $500 and getting Mr. 080. The set up and pairing of the ToolConnect app to the device is easy. From your phone you can set direction and speed of the laser rotation, and most importantly you can easily set the X and Y axis slope and view what % is set for each. Another small plus is the laser detector that sits on your site stick has a rear display on the 080 model, hence eliminating the times you need to stick your face and eyes in between the laser line and the site stick. This could be of value if you don’t desire early blindness. I just got this Dewalt DW080 laser and I absolutely love it so far. I’ll update my review after a few jobs; but at first pass it appears to be all I could ever want on a site survey and leveling job. It gets 5 stars except for cost; this thing is expensive... happy leveling... ... show more

    • I'll not buy it again!!!
I am a DEWALT user. Been using this brand for the last 10 years. Never had a rotary laser. My first laser!!! After hours of research decided to go with DEWALT. 1. The laser arrived later. We had to postpone, rescheduled the job two times... I was so frustrated that even it arrived later we couldn't use the tool. We tested the laser at home. 2. Never worked for more than 50' 3. The remote randomly will disconnect on me and the only way to get it to work I had to restart the laser. 4. The Bluetooth was defective, never worked. Spent about 6-8 hours, read all articles and watched all videos possible and couldn't make it to work. Replaced the coin battery twice and nothing. It suppose to be an easy connection using their App to control the laser, but NO it didn't work. I returned the tool and not planning to buy it again. The only way I'll change my mind and will change the rating is, if DEWALT will reach personally to me and compensate or give a big discount. ... show more

    • Needed to be calibrated right out of the box.
This unit needed to be calibrated right out of the box. It is a very nice design though. I liked the unit, but I’m not going to send a brand new unit immediately in for service. If the unit could have been “user calibratable”, I may very well have decided to keep it. I ended up purchasing the Bosch GRL4000-80CHV, and I’m very happy with it. ... show more
