  • Detroit Axle Drilled & Slotted Brake Rotors for Ford Excursion 00-05, F-250/F-350 Super Duty 99-04
Size: 4R1900032/Kit
My Review For: Detroit Axle Drilled & Slotted Brake Rotors for Ford Excursion (2000-2005) and F-250/F-350 Super Duty (1999-2004) I paired these front and rear drilled and slotted brake rotors with Power Stop Z36 brake pads for my 2003 Ford F350 Powerstroke diesel, and the results are outstanding. Opting for this combination saved me money compared to the full Power Stop kit, and I have no regrets. The braking performance, especially when towing my fifth wheel camper, is a dramatic improvement. It's night and day compared to the previous setup. I now feel much more confident towing heavy loads. Installation Tips Proper installation is critical to avoid issues like warped rotors. Here’s what I recommend: Clean the hub surface thoroughly: Remove all rust from the hub where the rotor mates. This step is often skipped, but essential for proper rotor seating (minimal run-out). It is a tedious and time-consuming task that’s often overlooked, but nonetheless, it’s quite important. Optional anti-seize tip: I apply a very thin layer of anti-seize on the hub’s mating surface (not the threads) to prevent corrosion and ease future brake jobs. Be cautious to NEVER apply anti-seize or lubricant to wheel studs, as it can lead to over-torquing and stud damage/breakage. When I say thin layer, I’m talking just enough to make it shiny, no more. USE ONLY APPROPRIATE GREASE! Apply only brake-specific grease to the slide pins to ensure they move freely. The previous owner or shop used regular bearing/axle grease, which caused the rubber bushings to swell to the point where I could barely get the slide pins out, which was also causing my calipers to bind up. This was a big issue and severely affected braking performance, all because someone chose to use the wrong grease. I had to replace all of the bushings and boots due to the wrong grease being used, causing the deterioration and swelling of the rubber components. Two of the slide pins on your F250/350 have small rubber grommets, and if they swell, the pins will no longer slide. I had to use a 3-pound hammer and punch to remove them from the calipers. Yeah, it was that bad. ONLY USE SILICONE GREASE or specialized brake component grease when doing brakes. Additional tip: (The pins with the rubber bushings if equipped, always go at the trailing rotation of the rotors. So if your calipers are mounted towards the rear of the rotor, the pins with rubber bushings go at the top, but if you have a vehicle where the calipers are mounted at the front of the rotors, they would go at the bottom. Break-In Procedure To ensure optimal performance and prevent rotor warping, follow this break-in process: Initial stops: Perform 5 moderate to aggressive stops from 40 mph to 10 mph in quick succession without letting the brakes cool. Avoid coming to a complete stop; if stopped at a light, shift to neutral or leave space to creep forward slightly to prevent the pads from imprinting on the hot rotors. Secondary stops: Do 5 moderate stops from 35 mph to 5 mph without cooling. Expect a resin smell as the brakes heat up. Cooling phase: Drive for about 5 minutes at a moderate speed without stopping fully. In areas with frequent stops, maintain enough space to creep forward, avoiding prolonged pad contact with hot rotors. This allows the brake pad resin to cool and cure properly. Normal use: Once cooled to standard operating temperature, use the brakes as usual. Additional Tip After any emergency or aggressive stop during the brakes’ lifespan, avoid holding the brake pedal while stationary, especially when the rotors are super hot. This can cause pad imprints and warping. If possible, creep forward ever so slightly or put the vehicle in park and release the brake pedal to prevent prolonged contact. Conclusion The Detroit Axle rotors, paired with Power Stop Z36 pads, have significantly enhanced my F350’s braking performance. I’m extremely satisfied with this setup for the price and will update this review if anything changes. ... show more
