Features

  • ALPACA & MERINO/DORSET SHEEP WOOL HEAVYWEIGHT WOVEN AT A FAMILY-RUN MILL IN THE PERUVIAN ANDES: A 50/50 blend of alpaca and Peruvian sheep wool (Merino and Dorset breeds) the same fibers shepherds have raised in the high Andes for over five centuries. Finished with reinforced polyester binding and double-brushed nap for a genuine 100% wool bed blanket built for years of use. No synthetic fill, no shortcuts.
  • ENGINEERED BY NATURE FOR COLD WEATHER WITHOUT THE SWEAT: Alpaca brings breathability and a soft touch; Merino/Dorset sheep wools add loft, natural lanolin, and resilience. Heavyweight warmth that traps heat without trapping moisture use it on its own on cold nights, layer it over a comforter for added warmth, or pack it for winter camping.
  • WHAT TO EXPECT FROM REAL WOOL: Authentic wool has a natural alpaca/sheep wool scent on arrival that fades within a couple of weeks proof of pure, untreated fiber, never chemically deodorized. Expect a textured wool feel (not slippery-soft like synthetic fibers) and some natural fiber shedding that diminishes with time and use. These are signs of real wool, not defects.
  • FOR FULL/QUEEN BEDS HEAVYWEIGHT BED BLANKET: Sized to fit a Full or Queen mattress. Color: Earth Tones natural alpaca shades woven into a striped pattern. Because each blanket is woven in small batches at a family-run mill in Peru, dimensions and weight vary slightly between production runs. Also available in Twin and King.
  • EASY CARE, NO DRY CLEANER NEEDED: Spot clean as needed; machine washable on a gentle cycle with no agitation in cool water with a mild wool wash (we recommend Outback Gold Wool Wash). Lay flat to dry away from direct heat. Dry cleaning is also suitable. From Desert Breeze Distributing a woman-led, family-owned US small business founded in 2013 every blanket is inspected and packaged by our team in Idaho before it ships to you.

  • This is the Real Deal.
Color: Tan and Brown Size: Twin
I don't write many reviews, but want to give big kudos to the designer and producers of this blanket. I raise sheep for their wool and sell raw wool to hand spinners, so I'm able to judge quality. I don't, however, have the skills to make my own blanket, and have wanted one for a long time. I've looked and looked, and just happened on this on Amazon. In today's world of factory products, it is a real treat to find something this well-made for this reasonable. It is not fluffy soft like artificial fibers can be, but it is real wool, carefully produced and handled, to make a product that will last multiple lifetimes and do it's job well. Yes, there is a lanolin smell, that's natural! It protects the wool, on the sheep, or on the human. Think fisherman sweaters of old, those were left with all the considerable lanolin of the Shetland sheep breed, and were waterproof. These blankets don't have that much, I think alpaca don't have much and Merino sheep not very much for a sheep breed. Plus it's been washed, obviously, but with a product that leaves some of the lanolin in. This is a good thing for longevity of the product. The sheep-y smell is faint, but it's there, it came from real animals, not petroleum products. It dissipates within a couple of days once it's out of the package. There was even a little bit (very little) of what we call Vegetable Matter which just means tiny bits of hay or other plant material. It's easy to pick out, just do it gently or leave it in. It's another indicator of a real, natural product with many natural benefits. If you want this for camping, it could be a lifesaver, literally. It will insulate if it gets wet. For the home, it's very nice. The binding is soft and a nice finishing touch. The natural colors are beautiful, the thickness is perfect. I've slept so comfortably the week I've had it. It's not too warm for a heated home, it's just right. I"m getting old and I get cold, but haven't had to use the heating pad at all. It is a wonderful gift for anyone, or just a comfort gift for oneself. Kudos to both the seller and to Amazon for making such a fine product widely available. ... show more

  • This is the blanket you've been looking for.
Color: Tan and Brown Size: Queen
I've been looking for years for a proper wool blanket with the right mix of texture, weight, and one that's actually big enough (what's up with so many tiny "throw" blankets? I'm 6'3!). When I opened this package, I swear I heard a chorus of angels in the distance and my bedroom lit up, just for a moment, with the light of the heavens. Yes, it's not as "silky" as that microfiber plastic blanket, but this is the softest wool you will feel, and unlike the plastic blanket it breathes, so you can be warm but not sweaty, wet, and hot! It's not scratchy! It feels like a very soft felt in texture, more like hair than what most people think of when they think "wool". It's "sturdy" in weight, if that can be said for a blanket. It's almost stiff, and has a great thickness to it. No t-shirt weight, paper-thin wool here, this is the real deal. I expect this to last for a good long time. It comes in proper sizes! I went for the queen, as it was only $10 more than the twin (my wife and I usually sleep with our own blankets - better sleep that way!), and it was definitely the right move, though even the twin would be bigger than the "throw" sizes I'm used to. We have since shared this blanket more than once, and there's plenty of space for both of us on a queen bed. It DOES smell like wool, the scent is stronger at first but dies down quickly, I've had mine for a month and a half and the scent is only noticeable if you sniff the fabric up close at this point. To some this may be a negative, but to me it's a sign of quality. In short, if you've been looking for an AMAZING wool blanket and coming up short, or scratchy, or thin.... buy this one. ... show more

Excellent quality, light, very soft, although there is a slight smell of wool, but I think it will go away after washing. For now, the blanket is warm, it’s moist while it’s autumn, but I don’t know how it will be in the winter.

  • Dog and 37 second video review sold it to me!!
Color: Tan and Brown Size: Queen
Spectacular blanket! Usually sleep with sheet blanket and comforter….like it cool at night. Last night just sheet and this blanket noticed huge difference extremely warm however blanket breaths and not hot unlike cheap blankets. Color is stunning photos don’t do justice. Blanket is kinda medium weight and soft but firm kind of strong wool you can tell will get even softer over time. Very sturdy border around edges. Slight smell which I’m familiar with from really good wool will go away over time (or dry clean it) don’t let it freak you out. Pure and simple this blanket is art ……multi generational to be passed down. Wool does not really get dirty like other fabrics wash or dry clean every few years if that. Dog in that 37 second video review should be spokesman and do a commercial. ... show more

  • True comfort.
Color: Tan and Brown Size: King
This blanket is excellent and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I slept in a full hour and 10 minutes past normally when I get up because I was so comfortable. This is what real wool feels like. It don’t be baby soft like a blanket that mixes synthetic fibers in but it’s still soft as far as wool goes. It feels like it has some heft to it but it’s not heavy or cumbersome. The biggest advantage is warmth. When you crawl into bed rather than waiting for your body heat to warm up cold bedding you almost instantly feel warm. It stays warm like an electric blanket but it’s never overly warm. It still breathes which is an advantage for wool as it essentially self regulates body temp. This is a well made blanket. I had no issues at all with the smell. You can detect lanolin but it’s slight. The king size blanket is true to its size and worth every penny. I’ve already put away 2 comforters I’ll never use again because of this blanket. My one caution would be the gray and white is much more like a brown and white. My entire bedding, walls, and curtains are gray and my carpet is brown. It matches my carpet. It’s still a 5 star blanket. Just don’t expect it to be actually gray. ... show more
