  • Works for Me
Color: Black Style: AVR-S970H
This one seems to have it all. Easy setup, easy to use, very convenient, flexible operating system for home audio. I had a Yamaha S301 set up with a Schiit (Yes) converter which handled my tuner, Roku 3 (for USB music) and Sonos (thru the Sonos Connect). That system worked fine, but I was intrigued by bluetooth capability, Internet, etc which the AVR has but my Yamaha does not. The attraction was price: $435 for the S970H turned out to be too good for me to pass up. Time will tell I guess, but the features of this unit give me a near limitless degree of control over more sound/music sources than I'll need for the foreseeable future: Built in tuner is fine, internet radio, USB, streaming audio services, bluetooth for the phone connection, phono pre-amp on board, hooked up fine with Sonos Connect and Roku (which interface is much preferable to the Denon USB interface), DVR/VCR recorder/player and an older non-ARC Panasonic LCD TV which gets along with it just fine using the optical connection (two available on the Denon which is REALLY nice). The Audessey mic setup is easy as pie, quick, and actually did make a difference in the sound from my Wharfdales. I am not a gamer so can't really comment, but if that works like everything else, which it certainly seems that it should, it would be a winner. Internet radio setup is kind of arcane, but finally figured it out. (When Bloomberg radio is playing, hit the back button and select the first menu list item.) All in all, very satisfied. A few minor concerns. One, the set-up/control interface displayed on the TV is darn near stone age as indicated above. My Roku that I use to get access to USB music is a Roku 3, probably 8-10 years old and though somewhat rudimentary, is so much better that there's no comparison. Denon doesn't even seem to have a shuffle play for its' USB system. If it does, I didn't find it. I mention this only because a company with Denon's reputation for quality gives itself away as a non-customer centric company when it settles for a poor quality system like this to present to its' customers. Second, the sound does not seem quite as full to me as the Yamaha, but that could be just me. The audio is very clean and certainly much better than acceptable. I have had Yamahas for so long that could easily just be my imagination. Also adding a subwoofer (two possible on this model) should help that a lot if I get concerned about it. Third, the receiver does not seem as robustly built as the Yamaha, and certainly not as the older receivers. I put that down to the digital tech, newer materials and of course the continued pressure on costs. There is no evidence so far that there is any problem with the construction at all, just a difference that some of us older users might perceive. Technology is moving so fast now, the construction quality is probably moot anyway because of the more rapid obsolescence of anything new. To sum up: This unit delivers everything it says it will, Easy set up and use, very facile, high quality sound reproduction, connectivity out the ying-yang.. And, BTW, the few reviews on here that seem to hit on the speaker connections are a bit picky in my opinion. Connections are just fine, easy to get to and work fine. Update december 5, 2023 I found myself using this system more often than I had the Yamaha so decided to add a sub and see what that did. Definitely a good move, better than good really. I brought in a wireless Klipsch 8" and the sound is as good as I could ever have expected out of any audio system if not better. Listening in the direct mode, without enhancements. Clean, full, rich music that is better than anything I've had before and I bought my first set of speakers in the 60s. I am running this primarily as stereo in a small room, with occasional excursions into surround for a movie. Very satisfied with the performance, flexibility and ease of use...and the sub really rounds it out. A real pleasure to listen to. ... show more

  • Worked out great
Color: Black Style: AVR-S570BT
I was worried about sound components not working with each other. I have an Apple TV that uses E Arc audio. The first HDMI cable I bought was a very popular rocketfish one that only had a couple reviews of earc, I think someone said it worked, but it did not for me. Womp Womp. Was it just a bad one? So I bought the highly reviewed and ultra cheap Best Buy hdmi cable for eArc. It amazingly worked like everyone said it would. I hooked this denon up to a Klipsch r-120sw subwoofer and some old very small center and side speakers with a mediabridge ultra y cable and the sound is truly amazing. In case anyone needs this info like I did: the sub didn’t work at first with a Y cable. I bought the Mediabridge ultra one because I saw other reviews saying it is great. But the sub didn’t work at first, it only put out some deep sound when something crashed in a movie and I had no music sound from it. I wondered if I was using the wrong cable, but even Klipsch suggested that a Y cable would give me the best sub sound (even though the 3 page sub manual did not say this). So I kept the Y cable and found info on an “advanced setting” in the Denon. I changed LFE to “Lfe + main” and now everything works, music, tv, all of it. The sound is awesome and perfect. There are other settings you can tweak to your liking in the denon, to change the audio, but I haven’t needed to. It all sounds amazing. I am pretty much posting this info to all components because I had to dig through it all myself and maybe this will help someone else. ... show more

  • Satisfied with the Price, OK reciver
Color: Black Style: AVR-S570BT
The media could not be loaded. Took a chance and bought this unit refurbished for 220$ does everything that it says it does Using this with JBL Northridge series speakers and denon sub It feels very cheap nothing like all of my dads older Denon receivers. Maybe that’s just how they make them now? The receiver is very light and the volume Nob feels cheap and almost like I could just rip it off. That being said it does sound alright and the hdmi inputs work. I have my Apple TV switch ps4 and my desktop going into my receiver then to my tv. I don’t notice any latency or resolution decreases! For 200$ I am very satisfied with my purchase however I couldn’t justify buying this for the retail price of 400$ ... show more

I just recently purchased a second one of these Denon receivers because I was so impressed with my first one. They have a really good quality sound, easy to use, and are reasonably simple to operate. There’s a good number of inputs for every option that I want on the back. Great quality for the price. ... show more

Color: Black Style: AVR-S570BT
Hooked it up, easy, brand new surround speakers as well. Blu ray was fantastic ,great video and audio. switched over to tv sound and nothing. went to source on my Samsung tv and the icon for the unit disappeared along with the sound. Just quit, my first Denon ever and this. Extremely dissapointed. Ususally I read these types of reviews and say wow, that never happens to me. BOOM Shaka Lacka....The receiver I received was garbage...I bought this, already have it hooked up and LIGHT years better, Bluetooth is amazing and has a lot more sound shaping abilities, and actually worked right out of the box.......https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P8BCWKY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ... show more
