Top Amazon Reviews

  • The best ever
Color: Black
I immediately had to write this review because this amplifier is insanely amazing. I have owned many amplifiers and this is hands down on another level. The construction of this amplifier is soo gorgeous, soo beautiful, soo well made and heavy it left me speechless. This amplifier is made by true craftsman and engineers. The hard work that went into this is breathtaking. It has an automotive paint job! It has a beautiful blue smooth paint job! This kills anything a western brand makes and then pisses on it. The value for the money is unbelievable. I don't know how Willsenton can make a profit at this price but I am extremely grateful and will save up to purchase the rest of their products because aftering powering it on this amplifier sounds as impressive as it looks. The sound is the greatest thing I've ever heard. After a life of solid state amps and a few class d I went to tubes first with tube headphone amplifiers and this is my first 300b speaker amplifier. At 8 watts this plays louder, more musical, smoother and with more crystal clear authority than any solid state or class d I've ever heard. I have this amp hooked up to my fully upgraded tekton pendragons and the sound is magical. Crystal clear mids and highs, smooth, natural, life like, and it has slam and authority. Yes, this does not play softly it is perfectly dynamic. This amp plays rock, vocals, instrumentals and pop with authority and ease. I have the Volume set at 9 o clock and going any higher it gets very loud but still crystal clear and smooth. It is unbelievably linear. Thank you willsenton for making this product at such a great price. This easily competes with products many times higher in price and I am extremely grateful to be able to own a 300b of this very high quality. If anyone is interested I can tell you honestly it's more than worth it. You will listen to your whole library all over again with this because it's that good. It brought my music to life. ... show more

  • Purchased two R300's, They have issues, because of improperly designed amplifier.
Color: Black
I owned two Willsenton R300's, both having major power supply issues. I found a YT amp builder /reviewer, Skunkie Designs, who showed existing R300's that the R300 amps have major issues. The builder/review shows you how to fix the power supply issues with the R300 Plus amp. Therefore, I fixed my two amps myself. Of course this voided warranty. Glad I have electronic experience, being a former employee with Cary Audio. Therefore, I saved myself money, making the necessary repairs to the power supply, ensuring the amp won't burn up tubes, and go up in smoke. On here, an individual reviewer claims, the Willsenton warranty repair facility is legit. This is simply Not true! Provide us a real example then, of customers that have used this repair facility in WI? I tried, and had no success, very frustrating. The design of this amp really limits what a true 300B amp design is truly capable of. I've listened to some world class 300B amps, and this amp, is not a very good sounding entry level amp. If you decide to keep this amp, I absolutely would not, invest in expensive tube rolling. Bottom line, this schematic design on the R300B isn't a good one. I was very lucky to dump my R300's, loosing $700. Most people who are trying to sell their R300B Plus, are having difficulty selling and are taking significant losses. My advice, be patient, and hold out for someone that will give you maximum dollar. It took me a long time to sell my R300's. Highly recommend avoiding the Willsenton R300B's. There are much better alternatives on the marketplace. If you have a R300 plus and love it, great, but it's a matter of time and it's going to have issues. This isn't scare tactics, rather than providing a honest experience, unfortunately with the two Willsenton R300's. When working on my WIllsenton R300B, I took off the 2 output transformers, only to find, they filled most of the covers that go over the output transformers with gravel and epoxy glue. This is totally unacceptable! To give them a much heavier feel. I tested these output transformers, they measure horribly. I mean no comparison to a Tango-ISO output transformer. Seriously why would anyone put gravel and epoxy glue in the two huge covers alongside the output transformers? Not good people. The only reason I give the R300B a one star, it will plug in and play, for how long? I don't see it lasting more than 5 years at best. I also replaced the cheap chokes that were inside, with correct specification Hammond chokes. So the two customers that bought my Willsenton's, will at least have a professionally repaired amp. But they will never truly perform like a real 300B amp will, because of a poor schematic design. Sad to say, because they are beautiful in appearance. Unfortunately they don't sound as good as they look. I really had high hopes for these amps, however, I was really let down from the experience. I read the one reviewer on here, raving about the Willsenton R300B, saying it's the best ever? Take in consideration, he said, this was his first tube amplifier! Very important detail. I've owned many U.S. Made tube amps, the Willsenton is far from the best ever. In conclusion, he really doesn't have true listening experience, to judge how a properly designed 300B tube amp will sound like. Look up Dennis Had, Cary audio, inspire manufacturer. Now he is a topnotch 300B tube amp designer. ... show more

  • Game Over
Color: Black
Right out of the box, the R300 delivered the most mesmerizing sounds I’ve ever heard. And after only eight hours, it’s louder, clearer, and more holographic than all other single ended triode amps I’ve owned or heard. In my world, only SET amps can compete. My high end stereo hobby spans many decades and I don’t think I’ll be looking for another amp. The way this thing brings voices into the room is eerily realistic. 300B is no joke! While listening, I felt like a knight on a three dimensional chess board of musicians, as if I could walk amongst them. Finally, the sound is so magical, I get lost in it; making me forget any thought of the science and technology involved in its production. And at the end of the day, isn’t that what it’s all about? The R300 is a flawless jewel inside and out. ... show more

  • Beautiful midrange but thin bottom end
Color: Black
I bought this amp with high hopes, it sounded great after burn in but I was never able to get enough bass. It has a very pure, warm sound. I wasn’t in the mood to Jerry rig my sub into the system——but I thought very hard before returning it. After about 100 hours of burn in, I heard the most beautiful, open, warm and holographic sound that so many audiophiles speak of. My speakers are large ( circa 1985 but all rebuilt Klipsch Chorus 3 way horns). Horns are not too bright with the correct amplifier. People that say horns are too bright should try vintage gear or tubes. The 300B tubes made them sound fabulous with jazz, classic rock, country, newer rock really anything I played. I wanted to love it but in the end, my father’s vintage Marantz 22xx from 1977 was better as was my vintage Accuphase E202. Not midrange better but overall dynamics, warmth and depth better. The Marantz plays vinyl so well. The 300B was just too thin sounding—-totally lacking the depth of the beautiful string bass from Jazz that I really enjoy. (Mingus). If you are a purist who doesn’t need tone controls…you will love this. My ears and personal taste require full dimension and depth of sound. The chase of that perfect sound is part of it! ... show more
