  • Top performing in it's price range
I bought a brand new txnr676 in 2018. I used it real real hard, as I work from home and tend to watch movies while I work. I use hardware at least twice as hard as most folk as this is one of my main hobbies/entertainment avenues. Originally I had it configured w a 4k, HDMI 2 capable TV. No hdr, not much else then to get 4k and ATMOS sound out of my movies and video games. Eventually I ended up with a way more modern Vizio 4k HDR TV w HDMI 2.1, and eventually the inputs on my older receiver started switching on their own and the over all sound stage started to degrade. I imagine I could probably open up the chassis and replace some capacitors or resisters, check the soldering on some contacts, and it would be fine.. but, I saw a sale and decided to get a different machine. I need 5.2.2 out, 120hz 4k for gaming and UHD for films and streaming. I was originally going to try a Denon x3800h, but after a few months of research I ended up deciding on the Onkyo as it was repeatedly rated the best for 4k gaming and upper mid range home theater. The added bonus of IMAX and THX support and 8k at 60hz (for the TV upgrade to 8k eventually) were welcome additions. Quick setup, similar to the older Onkyo, it ended up integrating better because it recognized and added itself to my Google Nest network. Also, it had a feature that can tune each channel to specific speaker combos if you own them, and I do, in fact own some real nice Klipsch reference towers, surround, subs and their upfiring ATMOS joints. That was really cool. It knows exactly how to send audio to each of my speakers the best way for that speaker channel. So, it plays my games great, automatically handling picture settings for games to my TV, the audio is much improved over the last gen. Very clear channel definition, powerful highs, very clear and soft lows. 5.1 upmixed to ATMOS sounds spectacular and processing 1080p or lower still look really great in unconverted 4k. I've got a Roku ultra, PS4 pro, Xbox Series X and a Nintendo Switch all doing work through the receiver to the TV. The HDR is crisp. Audio passthrough and eArc work great. After a week of regular use I can say with confidence this was a great purchase. ... show more

  • Quality and Sound are hard to beat
I had always been a big fan of Onkyo going back to the 80's. In 2007 I bought a 7.1 Onkyo TX-SR605S receiver which was amazing. Lasted up to 2021 when I stupidly changed to Denon. Bad move, I went through 3 of those Denon receivers 2 of which were warranty replacements and when I FINALLY got one that worked I was kicking myself because the sound sucked and zone 2 was a joke. So I waited until recently to can that Denon and replace it with this Onkyo TX-NR6100. My God, life is so much better! Excellent sound, easy set up and Zone 2 does exactly what it should. I know Onkyo was acquired by Sharp so I hope they can continue to make great quality equipment. ... show more

  • Bi-Amp means 5.1 sound.
So this is a fantastic product. Zero issues with amazing sound quality. I have a Roku Ultra, Dish/Cable ( somewhere between 480i to 1080i ), Laptop ( 120hz 4k nvidia 4060), 4k BluRay player, and OTA MediaSonic ( 1080p ) device all connected through my Logitech Harmony Remote. TV is a GoogleTV, 4k, 60Hz, 86 inch viewable. Everything connects through certified 2.1a, shielded, HDMI cables. One cable is powered as it's over 8-feet, all other lengths are between 1-6 foot. I press a button on my Harmony remote, and everything switches without an issue. Somehow, when going from my old setup to my new one, I've reduced the cables. Before I had things plugged into my TV and my old AMP. Now I'm just using this HDMI cables to connect devices, and 1 HDMI to the TV. TV is no longer connected to internet, and only uses 1 HDMI port. Front speakers are powered floor standing towers with bi-wire or bi-amp inputs. Center has mid with tweeters. Left & Right have tweekers, mid, and 6-inch sub. Rear are onkyo shelf speakers, naturally a sub too. The great thing about 7 speakers is, you don't need a lot of volume to feel surrounded by sound. It's like how 7 smaller lights can brighten enough to make the same light as 1 light. As you increase the number of speakers, the quieter it is for the neighbors... not counting the bass of course :D DTS surround is better than Dolby Atmos/7.1 on this. The further separation is just awesome. DTS and THX is stunning. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of DTS & THX titles out there. Switching sound options is easy too. You just press the "Speakers" button on the remote, and you can switch between AVAILABLE options. As for up-scaling, it works well. When I use a 720i ( ota ), or 1080i/p, TV is showing 4k and not letter-boxed nor grainy - this is on an 86 inch tv - so I don't really have to look. On my old setup, a lower resolution would use about a 60-inch TV worth of video. The only reason I took away a star is the Bi-Amp Vs Bi-Wire. It needs to be noted that using Bi-AMP means you lose two channels. The sound quality is clearly better with Bi-AMP, however, you lose the effects of things coming from behind. Had I known this, I would have purchased a 9.1 AV receiver from Onkyo. ... show more
