  • Glad I finally got one of these
Im a hobby woodworker. Not a contractor, but I do a lot more than average. I have a dewalt dw708 compound miter saw. I've never had a laser on a saw before, so this is new to me: - I do find it to be very handy, I suspect its something I'll wonder how I lived without. - Installation was easy on my dewalt, took all of about a minute and a half. - The laser was exactly perfectly aligned. I currently have a thin kerf blade mounted, and the left edge of my 3 test cuts was right down the middle of the laser line. They key there for me is that a) it cut perfectly straight along the laser line b) I know exactly where it cut so I can be better than 1/64" precise in my cuts - Yes I needed to turn the saw on to get the laser to light up. I think Id prefer an on-off switch, but maybe not. At this price point I'm quite happy to have it work the way it does. A couple things I'll be paying attention to while I use it more: - the screw that holds the blade on is reverse threaded, so righty-LOOSEY. I rarely forge that, but... the original washer that holds the saw blade on is stamped with "tighten loosen" and arrows so you really have to be no paying attention to mess it up. The Delmar laser guide does not have that info printed on it. Would be nice if it did. - The laser has a square-ish hole so it mates properly with the drive shaft of the saw. But it is not a perfect fit on my dewalt, so I had to eyeball it. Not surprising for a tool that fits any/all saws, but again, something to be aware of because if it gets off center it could cause vibration. ... show more

  • Works well, installed easily, bright and easy to see
This is a small device that came with instructions that were easy to read and follow. It worked right away and gave a clear straight line so you know immediately where it will be cutting. I expected a thin laser line that I could put the saw blade on and get a nice, accurate cut. So, initially I was surprised by how wide the laser line was as compared to others I have on different equipment. However, as I used it I realized that this may actually be a better design. When I use my circular saw with the laser that came with it, it gives me a thin line that I need to follow right down the middle. For most purposes that is fine, but the saw blade does have a thickness to it and as a result cutting right down the middle of a line meant that my cut was short by about half the width of the saw blade. This is acceptable for the majority of the cuts that I make. For this laser, it is to the side of the blade and puts the line on the wood such that you line up the edge of the laser line and the saw blade. When the cut has to be exact, like cabinet making and similar, this actually produces a more accurate cut Now that I have used it a few times, while I was going to take off a star for the thickness of the laser line, I now find that I prefer using the edge of the laser line and knowing exactly where the cut will be. ... show more

  • Works great, but fit was a challenge
I have a Chicago Electric 10" sliding miter saw from Harbor Freight. At the time I didn't upgrade to the Laser saw, since I didn't think I needed it. Then I used that saw to upgrade all the base moldings in our home. During that project there were many times I'd wished I went with the Laser saw instead of the one I had, as I had to be especially careful with each cut to ensure I was still on the mark. So I came across this Laser upgrade to an existing saw and ordered one. Installation was a challenge, as there wasn't sufficient clearance between the saw arbor bolt and blade guard mounting. The washer under the arbor bolt was not removable, so that was not the answer. Grinding down the end of the guard pivot bolt did not remedy the issue. Finally, drilling a new bolt hole for the guard mounting allowed to reposition the guard just enough for everything to fit together without issue. The Laser guide is self contained and has no visible battery. It will light up once the saw begins to spin. Alignment of the Laser beam matches well the outer (Left) edge of the saw blade and matched my mark and the cut. Great product. I hope your saw is less of a challenge to get it properly installed. ... show more

  • ESSENTIAL FOR PRECISION MITER CUTS
Primary use of my miter saw has been to cut both crown and baseboard molding. Doing the compound miter cuts requires not only lots of measuring, math, and marking, but also setting the saw for accurate cutting. All that work for nothing if I can't get the cut precisely where I want it! I sold my last miter saw (DeW 12in. cpd) with the laser attached as a major selling point. I put this Delmar laser on my Ry*** 7.25 sliding compound miter saw. Easier than changing the blade, just a minute or two. Unlike many items, the Delmar laser guide came with very well written and clear instructions, along with great color photos. Just a couple of fine points to note, using my Ryo as an example. Instead of trying to hold the blade against a piece of scrap wood, find the blade shaft lock button, mine is shown in the pic above. Hold it down and carefully rotate the blade until the button locks into place. Blade bolts are reverse threaded, so it's righty (clockwise) to remove (lefty to lock?). The laser guide replaces the blade washer and has a squared off back to lock over the drive shaft. Put the bolt back in counter clockwise and you're done. Note that your blade will cut on the right edge of the laser line. Feeding your stock from the left will yield the most precise cut as shown, otherwise allow for the blade kerf. Solid build with a lifetime guarantee, doesn't get better than this! ... show more
