An Excellent DIY Mini-Split: Quiet, Powerful, and User-Friendly As a first-time DIY installer, I am incredibly impressed with this mini-split system. The performance is outstanding, and the unit is exceptionally quiet. Installation: The included kit is comprehensive, providing almost everything needed for installation. However, for a clean and professional-looking result, you will need to purchase the following items separately: Drill and appropriate masonry, drywall, wood bit, line set wall sleeve/guard Outdoor condenser wall mount. A vacuum pump and gauge set (essential for proper installation) I highly recommend watching instructional videos on YouTube before starting. Ensure all connectors are securely tightened, the refrigerant lines are not kinked, and you perform a thorough leak check to avoid common installation errors and the need to add refrigerant. Performance: The unit operates at a whisper-quiet level, both the indoor air handler (even on its turbo setting) and the outdoor condenser. It is a significant improvement over my previous portable floor AC, which was disruptively loud. This unit effectively cools my room, which has a west-facing window and would previously reach temperatures as high as 98^F. Now, the room temperature can comfortably be lowered to 63^F. Features: The accompanying mobile app has a clean, user-friendly interface that is simple to navigate. I’ve had mine for about 6 months now and it is still keeping my gym cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The indoor unit is efficient, sleek, and quiet. The outdoor unit is not bulky and is relatively quiet in both heat and cool modes. They give you plenty of lineset for residential use. Everything was very simple to install and set up. Originally when I got this unit, it did not work. I was sent a defective unit, however the Della customer support sent me replacement parts needed free of charge and quickly.

Absolutely solid heat pump. It's decently quiet, does what it's supposed to, and works pretty well in the cold. It heats decently well down into the teens (F, ~-10 oC), but it starts to become increasingly less useful in the single digits and below, although I never tried with max power (it lets you cap the power draw to 80%, 50%, and 30%). It also has an anti freeze mode that locks the temp to 41 oF (8 oC) , but for some reason you can't do any temp between that and 61 oF. Thanks to the inverter tech and power control (app only btw, remote won't do this) you can even run this reliablly on a 15a circuit, although 20 is still reccommended.

I had gotten a few bids to add a mini-split heat pump to one of the rooms in my house, and they were all in the $7K range, which I didn't want to spend. Part of that cost was going to be the cost of installing a new 220v outlet. This is basically the biggest BTU heat pump that can run on a standard 110V outlet, and so I decided to take on the project myself! I added a ducting kit, a surface wire run, a wall mount for the compressor, a long heavy gauge power cord, AND a vacuum pump for getting the refrigerant lines set up, and the total bill was about $1350, which was way more palatable than $7K! This unit comes with everything you need otherwise, including a wall transit tube for the refrigeration lines, putty to fill the gaps, a flange for the outside of the wall transit tube, etc. I have never done this before, but it wasn't too bad. I watched their install video, and did a few YouTube videos to get myself up to speed. All in all, it was about 9 hours of work, including all the ducting, vacuuming the lines, and everything. And I did it all by myself. The indoor unit isn't too heavy, and it wasn't too hard lifting it into place on the bracket by myself. I have had it installed for about a month now, and it has been used in both heating and cooling mode. The remote is pretty decent, but I'm mostly using the cell phone app to control it, which gives you a bit more control, like what blowing pattern to use. (It can blow up, down, left, right, or any combination of those, with its "precision flow" settings. So you can have it automatically blowing in a changing pattern.) I have not noticed any big hit on my power bill during that time, and it is keeping that room quite comfortable! And the indoor unit makes basically no sound. The compressor is wall mounted to the back of my garage, and I can hear a little hum when the compressor is running, but I don't care, because it's my garage. I would not want to do a wall mount for the compressor on a wall of an an interior room of my house, because even though it is quiet, it is noticeable. So in that case, I would add a pad on the ground and mount it to that. So even though the manual states that it should be installed by a professional, if you're moderately handy, have the time, and don't mind searching YouTube for pointers on how to do things like vacuum the lines, it really was a good DIY install! The only downside of that is that I can't get my state's tax credit for installing an efficient system, unless I went through the hassle of registering myself as a "qualified installed", which I could have done, but I'm super happy with both the cost and the result, so I decided not to go through that step.

I've purchased 3 Della mini splits. The last one which has been used about 5 months is making an awful sound on the outdoor unit indicating the compressor is going out. I've been dealing with there tec support about 3 weeks and they are clearly giving me the run around. Very dissatisfied with customer support.

Bottom line, I’m happy. I bought the 12K BTU, 115V, 22 SEER unit for a 300 square foot in-law suite. I installed it myself. It was not difficult, but I’m also someone who can be considered a handyman. I watched a lot of videos on how to install mini-splits. You’ll have to buy some special tools which will run you about $150, unless you can borrow them. However, Della now offers an installation rental kit for $100. They send you the tools to use, and you send them back, primarily a vacuum pump and gauges. So far, I’ve used the AC and heat, and both work great. The two packages arrived fast and un-damaged. I ran my own 20 amp, 120V circuit to the unit. It’s quiet, both inside and outside. If there is one thing I had to mention I didn’t care for, that would be the remote. It works, but I wish they had just kept it simple. I don’t care for fancy bells and whistles on products. Just give me 5 functions; Heat, Cool, Temperature, Fan speed, and maybe an Auto option. I don’t need WiFi, and Alexa, and 30 different settings, and timers, etc. Keep it simple! Also, I’d prefer it if the display on the remote had text instead of icons. I’d rather read “Heat” or “Cool”, instead of seeing an icon of a sun and snowflake, which are tiny, and both look similar on the screen. I can live with it but wish they would offer a simpler controller. All and all, good value here.
