I’ve been shopping for a new computer for several weeks to replace an eleven year old Mac. My primary goal was to abandon Apple and Microsoft to escape security concerns and proprietary software and equipment. In short I wanted a Linux replacement. The problem is that few computer manufacturers devote the additional effort and resources to support Linux, although their equipment may very well be compatible. I initially looked at mini computers but decided they were generally limited in expansion options, tend to run at elevated temperatures, and poorly supported after the sale. Dell is one of the few mainline computer companies that actively support Linux with compatible hardware and firmware. Furthermore Dell computers are known for solid construction, customer support and compatibility. The fact that they can be purchased for just slightly more than an equitable mini computer cinched the deal for me. I bought the Dell ECT1250 - Intel Core Ultra 7-265 Processor with 16GB ram and a 1 TB SSD. The computer arrived in great shape and was well packaged in the original Dell shipping box. I retained a small Windows partition on the SSD with the remainder devoted to Linux, specifically the Zorin distribution. I have been using the computer for about two weeks now and will say that I am tremendously impressed with the quality, compatibility and support I have experienced with ownership of this product. Linux support from Dell is excellent and I have already experienced a flawless firmware update of the computer from Dell that installed entirely without effort on my part. Heat is of no concern with this computer, however it is much larger than a mini computer, but not as large as you may expect (mini tower). Expansion options are abundant, I have already added a backup drive inside the computer without issue. Between my new Dell ECT1250 and Zorin (Linux), all of my devices were recognized and are operable without any effort from me. I have 2 dedicated high speed scanners (a Fujitsu and a Epson), a Canon scanner/printer, wireless mouse, keyboard, monitor, various external hard drives, and a Synology server (media server). All connected and work reliably without effort, even my Iphone! My Mac has been replaced and for much less than what I was expecting had I elected to remain in the Apple ecosystem. All of my Mac software that I rely on has been replaced at no cost with open source software. Linux is not for everyone although its is getting very close to being so. Finding software to replace long used favorites is never easy. There is a learning curve. But if you want a new computer that you can feel confident will work with Windows OR Linux, then Dell is the way to go in my opinion, and the ECT1250 - with Intel Core Ultra 7-265 is a great choice with excellent value, quality and support. ... show more

Very nice computer. Being SSD it does not make a sound. It was very easy to set up. Connected to the internet as soon as it was started and follow all the directions on the screen. For what I do it has plenty of speed. I may increase the RAM to 32 GB if needed. Nice two of the rear ports will wake the machine which is nice for cordless mouse and keyboard. Makes a very nice home computer and I don't see any reason it would work great for business use too. ... show more

Works fine, but be aware there are no cables or bay for adding an additional drive. I had to find a power cable that works as well as a sata cable. I then improvised placement of an HDD within the case.

Very suprized Dell does a good job of providing assistance with upgrades and keeping your PC running well. I got the 16GB ram memory due to a special on prime day but would recommend 32GB. However I believe Dell offers memory upgrades. So I figure I can always upgrade to 32gb there is a slot for another ram strip. Hope this helps. Overall not a bad PC for biz stuff but would not recommend for gaming no seperate graphics card but suprizingly it does well with a 2K monitor when watching movies, youtube etc. Hope this helps. ... show more

Have not had a chance to review this computer's performance, but upon taking it out of the box have decided that it just does not meet my needs. It does not have a VGA port, which is no big deal because they make adapters to connect either the hdmi or display port a vga cable. Also, there are no speaker hookups on the back, which would necessitate the purchase of a separate sound card to hook up external speakers. Also, there are not internal hard drive expansion bays....I use a second hard drive solely for the purpose of storing our hundreds of photos. This can be alleviated by the purchase of an external enclosure, but again that would be yet another post-purchase expenditure to achieve maximum usability. Another thing that is lacking is an optical drive (dvd/cd): and although my internal inspection may have been brief, I did not see any onboard SATA connections that would be needed to install one, let alone an expansion bay for installation of one. Again, this could be remedied with the purchase of an external drive. I will be returning this computer, not necessarily for any issues regarding the quality, but my own shortsightedness. should have read the product description more. ... show more
