I work from home, and when my two year old computer died without any prior notice, I was stuck using my tiny laptop until I could get a new computer for work. I needed a computer fast and I needed it with a good amount of speed and RAM. I found this reconditioned Dell Optiplex 7070 Tower on Amazon and decided that it fit what I was looking for. Unfortunately, when I initially looked at the product description photos, I didn't notice that the ports in the back of the tower weren't HDMI ports, but were display ports. When I received my new computer, the monitor that I previously had, with a HDMI connection, didn't fit any of the ports on the back of the computer. I contacted Dell through their Customer Service Chat and ordered a new monitor that would work with my new computer. Unfortunately, when the new Dell monitor arrived by expensive Express Delivery two days later, it also had a HDMI connection that didn't fit any of the ports on the back of my new Dell computer. I again reached out to Dell Customer Service, was sent to their Technical Department, who, after 1.5 hours of troubleshooting, and finally me sending them photos of the back of the computer and the cable I was trying to connect, determined that I was missing cables that should have come with my new Dell monitor. I was sent back to Dell Customer Service to explain the situation of the missing cables. Dell Customer Service said that those cables weren't routinely sent with that model of monitor, and I'd have to speak with someone in their Sales Department to order the required cable. While speaking to a Dell Sales Rep, they offered a cable that would work, yet would require 3-4 days before it could be delivered to me. I was already behind on my work projects, due to my computer dying without notice, then having to purchase a new monitor once my new Dell computer arrived, so I asked for alternative options. She told me to look online for a HDMI adapter that would be similar to what she could offer. I found that a local big box store offered the same cable for same-day pick-up. I then noticed that the Dell Salesperson had offered to sell me a cable that wouldn't have worked with the Dell OptiPlex 7070 either. I needed a cable that adapted from HDMI to the display port. I finally found the cable that I needed on my own, no thanks to any of the Dell Customer Service, Technical Service, or Sales Departments erred recommendations, despite me providing them with the exact model and serial number of the computer that I was trying to get the cable for, and purchased the cable at my local big box store. The computer finally connected to the monitor and works perfectly. The tower exterior design and port structure looks like it come from the 1980-1990 era, yet the interior workings are new and updated. Use caution when purchasing this computer, as you will need an adaptive cable to make a monitor with an HDMI connection connect with a display port. This is easily found at your local big box store.
