  • Mostly "renewed"
Capacity: 14-14.99 inches Style: 256GB
Works just fine, and I would say it's a good value, but... The "eraser" track stick is missing and the fingerprint reader doesn't work. The case looked new, but the illusion was sort of spoiled by a really dirty screen. None of this is bad enough to make me want to return it, but a little more care on the part of the seller would have made for a much better experience. ... show more

  • A Great Performer, but you may need a new battery
Capacity: 14-14.99 inches Style: 256GB
I'm really happy with this machine. It arrived carefully packed, and the seller even included a brand new mousepad. The laptop itself is in excellent condition, with only the tiniest hints of wear. It could almost pass for new. The inside was also clean, with only a small amount of dust to blow out of the CPU fan. The one shortcoming was a weak battery, which provided only 1-2 hours of run time. Based on previous reviews, that was something I sort of anticipated. Here's a summary of what I've done to beef the machine up at an extra cost of about $80: (1) Replaced the battery with a new third party replacement (search Amazon for "60Wh F3YGT Laptop Battery Replacement for Dell Latitude 7480"). I'm still running through the first few cycles of conditioning, but it looks like I'm getting around 5 hours of casual use right now. I was hoping for closer to the 13 hours boasted when these units were new, but that's not bad. It may improve with conditioning, and you can further increase battery life by making tweaks to your power settings, and / or turning off things you don't always need on, like BlueTooth or Wi-Fi. (2) Booted up Windows long enough to install the latest Dell BIOS update for the Latitude 7480. This is a good idea as it addresses both performance and security issues. (3) Replaced the original 256GB SSD with a much faster 500GB NVMe. I considered upgrading the RAM (it'll take 32GB maximum), but both slots have 8GB DIMMs on this machine, and upgrading would require buying two new modules. I may revisit that idea later on. (4) Installed Linux Mint 21.1. One reviewer wrote that because this laptop doesn't support Windows 11, it would have to be trashed after Windows 10 support ends in October 2025. This is partially correct, but only if you choose to run Windows on it. You can download and install one of the many free distributions of Linux, which takes care of the obsolescence issue entirely. Linux Mint is one of the more user-friendly and popular distributions so it makes an excellent choice. This laptop is more than capable of performing a variety of tasks capably for years to come when you take Microsoft out of the equation. TL;DR It's a good laptop, but plan on buying a replacement battery. ... show more

  • A strong value when bought as "renewed"
Capacity: 14-14.99 inches Style: 256GB
I purchased this laptop used, refurbished by a Microsoft-approved service. There were a few smudges on the bottom of the case, and a few specks of dust inside, but I couldn't find any marks, scuffs, or damage. Pros: *Runs great. 16GB of DDR4 Ram keeps everything moving along quite nicely. * No apparent damage or signs of use, other than some smudges on the bottom of the case which wiped off easily. * No dust or crumbs stuck in the vents. * Power cord and brick in good condition, but not new-looking. * Light weight. * Feels sturdy enough I believe it will last a long time with good care. * Fan noise was unnoticeable to me, though I only tested when I consider to be low and medium-load games, the most demanding being Valheim on medium settings. * USB C port for the win! This opens up some nice options for docking stations and reduces the need for adapters. * BIG PRO: I didn't run into any bloatware! If it's there, it's unobtrusive. I was able to get things the way I like them very quickly with no struggle. What a relief! Cons: * Screen is mediocre, washes out with even minor viewing-angle changes. Not suggested for watching a movie with a second person. Looks fine once you find the optimum viewing angle, though. * I couldn't find many display or graphics-related options. Not sure the calibration process did much for me, other than enhancing the readability of text. * Relatively small internal storage may fill up quickly, depending on what you store. You can add storage by inserting a large-capacity SD card. * This is more of a personal gripe, but I'm not a big fan of low-throw keyboards, so I purchased a separate portable keyboard to throw in my carry bag. As an upshot, this will reduce wear on the laptop's keys, helping to maintain its value, should I choose to sell it later. Conclusion: This laptop was a steal at the deep discount that came along with it being renewed. I often buy renewed electronics for the savings and to reduce tech waste. If you can get a great, 1 year-old Windows laptop for the same price as a low-end Chromebook, why not? I look forward to many hours of sitting in the café, playing Slay the Spire instead of writing my novel. Cheers! ... show more

  • So far so good!
Capacity: 14-14.99 inches Style: 256GB
Iam a retired 68yrs who knows so little about laptops. I so pleased. Only had it a few days ago. I has been so easy for to set up and navigate. I will take classes to learn how to use Microsoft systems.
