The renewed Dell Latitude 5500 laptop I received looks practically brand new. The keyboard was probably replaced because there is no sign of wear whatsoever on the key caps. On the cover of the laptop, they placed a semi-transparent sheet of plastic that makes the cover of the laptop look new...this seems to be the norm for renewed laptops purchased on Amazon. The system boots immediately into the desktop as user 'dell' w/o a password, which can be changed, but I don't care about that because it a laptop to be used at home and shared with the family. Never booted properly, almost immediate hard drive failure literally upon boot up. I bought another hard drive and replaced it the next morning because I didn't trust how long it would take the seller to replace it.

The computer arrived is a well packed box. Once I powered it on, it booted into a user account. I prefer the setup option from Microsoft. When I tried to add my Microsoft account I was denied access. I preformed a reset recovery. When I finished the setup process, I was able to login with my Microsoft account. I knew from experience how to overcome this challenge. Many would have been frustrated. First power up it wants user password! No paperwork came with it. Spent 2 days on the phone with supposed tech support. No help just gave me you tube sites. Said they would email a one, but it never came. Finally was able to find a you tube that worked on my own and was able to reset admin and user login through the register command prompt. If you're not a savvy computer commands beware. Also, I didn't realize how old it was. I thought it was a recent purchase. It was bought in 2019, as i found out in thr registry error log trying to reset the password. ... show more
