FANTASTIC Machine. My wife and I debated long and hard over whether the DUO was worth the price. We've had it now for a couple of weeks and we're both thrilled that we made a good decision. It's very ease to learn to use and we're having great fun trying out new coffee recipes. The 'cold brew" recipes are very good and my wife ha been very impressed with the quality of "drip" coffee even when choosing to use the machine to grind the beans. I don't understand why three extraction options aren't more readily available on more machines, but DeLonghi has a winner at a price point that is competitive.

This is a good espresso machine, very easy to use for beginners. It will help to initially read the manual to familiarize with the various settings and capabilities because you can really customize how you want your drink in terms of strength and milk preferences. The machine is quite large but for what it can do being fully automatic makes it worth it. It grinds, froths, makes hot and cold beverages. Both the cold and hot beverages taste great although I think the hot ones do offer a stronger and better coffee or espresso. The machine doesn't look particularly nice compared to some other high end espresso machines but those are in the thousands of dollars range. One of the cool things is the ability to save customizations so often times I will just pick my custom hot or custom ice coffee preference. The machine is not too loud either so I can use it early in the morning and not disturb anyone. It's also not too difficult to clean but might be time consuming because there are a lot of pieces. Overall, I think for what you get it's a bit overpriced as I wouldn't want to pay 1k for it. Realistically you won't use the 20 different things it can make because everyone has preferences for a few drinks.. might be nicer to use in a public space though.

I wanted to love this. For the price point, it should clean my house…. After going over instructions and setting it up, I was not impressed. Ease of use sucks. It has so many functions that it leaves you confused as to what you’re actually set up for. The drinks we actually got to work were mediocre at best, being not hot enough and having to use the microwave to bring up to temp. The size is ok… kinda big and bulky for a countertop, at least with our kitchen. I don’t honestly believe this is worth what they are charging. I’d put its value at maybe 350$. A grand is ridiculous for this. It’s not worth it, the coffee is just average, and if I were you, I wouldn’t consider this one. Not recommended.

This is an espresso machine that makes more than just espresso! This model also does cold brew and other iced beverages. But no worries, you can still make your traditional hot espresso shots, cappuccinos, flat whites, and more. There is even a bypass hopper where you can add in enough ground coffee for one drink, but I find it better to just use whole beans for our coffee drinks. The result is much better. And there are two different options for making foam for your drinks - both hot and cold with the LatteCrema system. From a softer creamier foam to a denser foam - you can use skim milk, and plant-based milks like oat and soy among others. Just be sure to use the milk you put in these containers within a day or two as the top for them just sets loosely on top. After making a drink using one of these containers be sure to follow the directions for cleaning the spout out. Also doing a deep clean by soaking them in hot water every couple of days is going to provide you the best foaming experience. The pieces come apart very easily and reassemble just as easily. The front of this machine has a display that is easy to use. On the left-hand side you will see iced beverage selections as well as a more option (use the arrows to see them) and on the right hand side is your hot selections. With the arrows underneath the main window you can make adjustments to the size of your drink as well as the strength and then you would hit the OK button. On the back of the machine the cover lifts up to pour in whole beans and the grinder is in there that you can adjust, but only active during grinding. The water tank is conveniently located on the side just fill it to no more than the maximum line. Of course first follow the directions during set up to check your water hardness (testing strip included) and proceed from there. This includes a filter that can go in the water tank if you want to use it as well. This is also easy to clean when it needs to be cleaned. The brew assembly is behind the water tank and pulls out from behind a little door where it can be rinsed and dried before replaced. The LatteCrema pieces can be hand washed in hot water or put in the dishwasher. Other pieces are hand wash only. See the manual for the list of how you can wash each piece. After making a few drinks, you will need to empty out the drip tray on the front of the machine. Just pull it out and you can easily dump out the water that’s collected. The water isn’t leaking from anywhere but does buildup in the drip tray just from the normal coffee making process. Don’t forget to empty the grind container as well. What I like about this is the machine will tell you when most of these things will need to be done. Since I also have the DeLonghi Eletta Explore, there are a few things I wish this Magnifica Duo also had. This does not have the “to go” feature which gives you the option for larger drinks in a to go cup or travel tumbler and I noticed a standard size travel tumbler does not easily fit under the nozzle. Not a dealbreaker, but you do have to plan accordingly if you want a larger drink. This also does not have the option on the LatteCrema container top to turn to clean you have to follow on the prompts instead. If you miss doing it, you can go into the maintenance screen and hit the arrow until you get to the option for cleaning them. Again, not a dealbreaker. The biggest thing for me is the front panel is not as intuitive as on the Eletta. I am used to having the scrolling colorful panel to choose drinks from. While the panel on the Magnifica Duo works I have to remind myself that it’s different. Also, I have to be more careful because the on off button is in a spot that I’ve hit a few times unplanned. This model however is 50% cheaper than the Eletta but does not come with a travel tumbler and cleaning brush. It does come with some cleaning tablets, water filter, coffee scoop, and instruction booklet. Overall, for the price point of just under $1000 for an automatic espresso machine that grinds beans, provides iced as well as hot coffee options, and cold foam … it’s an overall great choice that also looks good! Now we have a dedicated machine for caffeinated beans, and one for decaf. Don’t forget to go online and register as in most instances you will get a longer warranty. Overall I would rate this 4 1/2 to 5 stars.

This is my fifth espresso machine and my third super-automatic espresso machine. There's a lot that I love about this machine with a couple of footnotes. Let me explain… This machine has settings for 20 different hot or cold coffee drinks. Most recipes are as simple as pushing a button and following the on-screen guidance. Unlike my other machines which required knowledge to operate them, this machine is easy for visitors to use. it tells you on screen what you need to do and what it is doing at the time. There are many customization options for the volume and strength of each drink. There are three different brewing styles depending on if the drink selected is cold brew, drip coffee or espresso... all automatic. I especially like that there are three individual personalization settings each of which can have stored settings for any of the 20 drinks. Not only that, the volume of coffee and milk can be tailored uniquely to each preparation using the "My" button and stored in the personalized settings. This means that, as example, I can be sure that my flat white is prepared in the correct size for my favorite coffee mug. This machine looks high end and durable. The grinding and drink preparation are very fast. This machine heats much more quickly than any I've owned. The automation and ease of use come with a couple of downsides. For me, the temperature of foamed milk is just barely hot enough and there is no setting to adjust the temperature of the milk. Also, the two milk carafes require frequent deep cleaning. The cold milk carafe is recommended for deep cleaning daily and the hot milk carafe is recommended to be deep cleaned every other day. This is after the automated cleaning after each milk drink. Deep cleaning is not difficult. Most of the parts, except for the actual carafe, can go into the dishwasher. But between the two carafes there are 11 parts to disassemble with the possibility of breaking or losing one. Also the recommended deep cleaning by hand requires soaking for 30 minutes in hot water. I don't run the dishwasher every day and I have to plan the 30 minute time for soaking. In all, this is a small effort required for the convenience and high-quality drinks it produces. If you are looking for high ease of use with a large repertoire of programmed and customizable drink recipes, I would recommend this machine. It is a good value.
