The kit’s outer box reads: “Easy to Test! Fast, Easy and Accurate”. That has been my experience. Of course, I would not expect any in-home test kit to replace the advice of an expert if I had a serious concern about my aquaria. As shown in my second photo I have demonstrated a tested strip. The tank that was tested is very healthy and does tend to run a bit low on the alkaline scale – as shown on the test strip. I am not one to over-test with a strip like this. A better testament, to me, is: To observe how are the creatures are actually doing? Thus, a bottle with 100 strips will do this household a long, long time. This seems to be the most common issue with these things. So, definitely check out the rest of the reviews to see if there is a consistency. I use this for my hydroponic system. The Free Chlorine Test is the most important test for me and this reading doesn’t match up with my other tester which is similar to this one. The difference is that it tests for 5 different things, not 8 like this o e. With this Test Kit, my Free Chlorine is testing at 1ppm. My other test has the result of 5ppm. The water smells very bleachy so I have a feeling that my other test strips are correct. This is such an important reading for aquariums so I know that this is important information for you. The items that do match up exactly with the 2 test kits are Total Alkalinity, and Water Hardness. As for Ph, the Ph indicator on this one I believe is correct at 7.2. My other test kit has a consistent reading of zero which doesn’t make sense! So, this could be a 5 rating but I just don’t know if the chlorine reading is accurate. This item arrives with the extra bonus of the temperature gauge. I don’t know why I didn’t think to purchase on of these things earlier for my set up! This is so important in our systems! The other positive is the expiration and manufacture date shown in the photo. Most other test kits I have gotten have an expiration date of a year or less. This one is almost 2 years! And as shown in the photo, the test was created less than 3 months ago so it’s a very fresh product. As you can see by the photo, this also comes with a test vial so that you can dip the test vial into the tank, pull up some water, put your test strip in the water for 1-2 seconds and then pull it out to read. It is important that if your water is too airy and moving that you use the test vial for accurate readings. For me, I just turn off my system for a minute to let the water stop moving so that I can do an accurate test. I have several tanks, so I go through test strips pretty quickly and am always on the lookout for a good, large budget pack. I tested these results against my API tubes and Aquarium co-op strips, and I'm glad to report that the DaToo brand ones work very well and are accurate. You'll get a good range of standard information with these (Nitrate, nitrite, KH, GH, PH, chlorine, etc.) as well as ammonia, which is a plus for when you're cycling your tank or dealing with a crash. Like with all strips, be sure to read the directions for how long to wait before measuring color levels (30 sec for most readings and 2 min for ammonia). Not sure how I feel about these, I used them in the tank and couldn't really understand how to read it as the colors didn't match up. Maybe it's just me, but I'm just not a fan.

Between home and office, I have two tanks to maintain. My office tank was looking a bit yucky, so I tested the water with these strips and took a sample to the pet store. The only small difference she had at the store was water hardness. We live in a city with hard water. On the strip it may have been colored slightly out of the ok range as well. I feel these are accurate and plan to test the water in both tanks more frequently now. Glad I have them. ... show more
