This is one of the only times I've ever actively gone back to give a positive review of any item without receiving the request to do so. I was incredibly surprised at how much dust it did actually get from the air and how much surface area I was able to cover quickly pulling thinset off concrete. I will guesstimate that it got 95% plus of the ambient dust out of the air which is more than acceptable. There were several minor modifications I needed to make to get the entire process to work much smoother. First the dust collection hose kept coming off the collet and had to be screwed in no big deal The other was that my Shop-Vac had to use bags otherwise the filter assembly simply clogged too quickly and was less effective. Neither of these issues was the fault of the product but after that was done it worked flawlessly I was able to clear 1100 ft² of floor with a 7-in Makita angle grinder and around 12 hours. Obviously the amount you're able to work depends on the thickness of the thinset / adhesive that you're peeling off. The other one that surprised me was that after completion the cup still had about a third life left on it and I had expected it to be used up well before then and did not have to use my backup wheels. ... show more

Keeps dust to an absolute minimum. When used slowly and methodically, it will keep more than 99% percent of the dust from escaping. The only dust that escapes if when you open the shroud to get closer to a wall or don’t keep the grinder flat. The only drawback is that the universal vacuum hose adapter does not connect to a full size shop vac with a 2-1/2” hose. The largest vacuum hose it will connect to is 1-1/2”. The wheel alone was worth the money the shroud performed as expected the nut and bolt to keep the wheel on can be a pain to remove with the shroud on unless you have a deep socket

I am grinding concrete high spots on a floor. I installed it on a cheap angle grinder. Fit easily and well. The grind disk is recessed a bit, and you need to press down to fold the brush edge of the shroud. That said, if the grind wheel was proud of the shield, the dust would be exponential. I have one 8 hour day grinding, and it still works as well as when first installed. It's doing the job well, and much easier than I had expected. Definitely a good purchase. Side window to work near edges works well, but when the window is open, the dust escapes. In these cases, a second vacuum is needed if you really need to keep the dust down. ... show more

This tool looks well made; however it doesn’t fit my Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 4-1/2 inch angle grinder. It is NOT the fault of this shroud, though. The grinder itself has two bumps on the surface that prevents the shroud from seating all the way. The original safety plate has a much thinner clamp, which doesn’t engage these two protrusions. Looks like I’ll have to take this shroud with me to match up to another grinder that doesn’t have these weird protrusions, as I need a surface that is flush. ... show more

If you are like me, you want to find an easier DIY way to complete jobs. I did not want to rent an expensive floor polisher from the hardware store. So instead I got this tool. I popped off all my tiles with my chisel bit and impact hammer (I also used the chisel bit to remove big chunks of thinset). Using the dastool was very easy. Probably the easiest part of the job. The thinset came up easily and there was minimum dust. YOU WILL KNOW when you don’t have the vaccuum on. I did this once and never again. My only issue was the transition rubber piece linking the shop vac attachment and the tool. It was only a minor issue that was fixed and secured with duct tape. I truly wish I had more jobs to use this on, because it was very easy and actually fun to use. I used the cheapy harbor freight grinder and it was fine. ... show more

This shroud appears to be pretty well made, and it attaches securely to my Makita 7" grinder. However, the one I purchased came to me warped to one side, which wasn't really visible until installing it and a grinding wheel. The housing is twisted by a good 1/4", as I've shown in an attached photo. This defect results in the bristles only allowing one edge of the grinding wheel to reach the surface you want to work on, which just cuts grooves in the concrete and makes it impossible to grind anything evenly. So it's totally unusable. Unfortunately, my first need for it came up just yesterday morning, which was almost two months after I purchased it, so the return period has expired. (Every time I read a review about someone who waited too long to find a defect I think how easy it would be to just check the thing right away, but now I've done it.) I sent a note to the seller via Amazon messaging, but have not yet heard back. I will definitely update this review if/when they send me a good one to replace this one... or if they don't for some reason. It sure appeared to be a 4 or 5 star item, but the fact that it has a plastic housing that can obviously warp somehow is a little concerning. The plastic is pretty tough, though, so perhaps this is a "one off" defect that occurred during manufacturing. ... show more
