I’ll never boil eggs in a pan of water again. I’ve “hard boiled” several dozen eggs since getting this and it’s been fantastic. The directions are straightforward, the device is simple to use, and the results are great. Make sure you poke a hole in the shell before cooking, using the provided tool. It was a bit disconcerting at first, as I expected the egg to shatter, but it was no problem. Also, make sure to place the cooked eggs in cold water when they’re done. The alarm that sounds when it’s ready is a bit loud and mildly annoying, but no biggie. It’s small and will not take up a lot of storage space. The amount of water you use will determine the “hardness” of the eggs when done. So you can easily achieve eggs cooked to your liking. It comes with an omelette tray that is only good for two, one egg “omelettes”, but it’s kinda cool. The bottom line is you get a perfectly cooked, easy to peel egg. For the money, it’s great and I’d recommend it to anyone that hates the unpredictable and cumbersome process of boiling eggs in a pan.

We’ve been using it every day for over 3 weeks and we still love it. It comes with very specific instructions, and I tend to wonder if the reviewers who are experiencing consistent problems with it are actually following those instructions. For example, the booklet directs you to pierce the *larger* side of the egg…I imagine there’s a reason for that. We’ve followed the instructions as written every time and haven’t been disappointed yet. You cannot beat the convenience of cooking 3 or 4 fresh eggs for breakfast with this little contraption instead of having to dirty a pot to cook a whole package of them and they come out perfect, too. No complaints.

If you read (and follow) the instructions you'll have the best experience with the Dash Rapid Egg Cooker. I received it, read the instruction booklet, unpacked it, washed the washable parts, watched Dash's little "how to" videos and quickly made 2 poached eggs. They were perfect! Not too runny, not at all hard and moist & delicious as well. I quickly prepared 7 eggs for hard cooking by poking the wide end of the egg with the provided tool, adding the correct amount of water and putting the cover on the cooker. I got 7 perfectly cooked hard boiled eggs. While I was learning how to use the tool to poke holes in the eggs I was being overly cautious and managed to break 2 eggs by squeezing too hard and breaking the shell of one -- in multiple places -- with my fingers. I broke a 2nd one by pushing the tool almost sideways making a bigger hole with a small crack in it. I chalked those 2 up to experience and set them aside. I then cooked 7 intact eggs in the cooker. They came out perfect and unexpectedly easy to peel. I've never been able to boil any number of eggs without a few cracking badly so losing 2 to the learning experience still left me ahead in the hard cooking eggs game. After making the first 7 eggs, I decided to "see what would happen" if I cooked the 2 broken eggs in the egg cooker even though they were badly broken. Please note that the first egg was essentially crushed with a little bit of egg white oozing out between the broken pieces of egg shell. The other egg was slightly cracked with a larger than necessary square hole in it. I assumed that both wood ooze out quite a bit of egg into the cooker. I added the appropriate amount of water, crossed my fingers and turned it on. The egg timer went off and I opened the cooker. Both eggs appeared to be intact with no leakage whatsoever. A big surprise. I cooled and peeled both eggs and they were absolutely intact and tasted great. The broken one was misshapen looking in the shell but once the shell was (easily) removed it looked fine, only slightly lumpy at the top of the egg - the part that is usually flat in hard boiled eggs. Even though some of the egg white had oozed out of the cracks in the shell, the egg itself, the egg looked fine. It would have been fine for most uses unless you were looking for a perfect shape for deviled eggs for example. Boiling an egg generally leaves a flat spot on the broad end of the egg, so normally that perfect shape just doesn't happen. So, my first 3 attempts using this egg cooker far exceeded my expectations and the Dash Rapid Egg Cooker is definitely a keeper for me. BTW: Reading and following the instructions is, in my opinion, essential to successfully using this cooker. Viewing the video that is included in the product listing is also very helpful: it gives a good idea of what to expect and you can observe what it looks like to use the cooker successfully. I learned from watching the video that using the needle provided to poke a hole in the larger end of the egg helps to prevent the eggs from cracking, makes the shells much easier to peel and allows the wider end of the egg to expand to fill the rounded shape of the shell giving a perfect egg shape on both ends for much better looking eggs for any dish where the shape of the whole egg is visible such as for deviled eggs. The video also explains why the provided measuring cup indicates that LESS water is used for MORE eggs being cooked which is counterintuitive. A number of reviewers have commented on this seeming mis-measurement; assuming the cup was incorrectly marked I can't recall ever being this pleased with an online purchase and I will be using Dash's Rapid Egg Cooker regularly.

Works well and compact compared to other egg cookers. The top can lock on but they recommend not to lock it on when cooking, so I guess it's for storage. The egg piercing pin seems a little thick and requires a bit more force than a previous egg cooker. And the water cup markings are very hard to read. The chime when it's finished cooking is nice ... but it continues until you turn the unit off which requires slightly more force than I would like. And yet I give it 5 stars because overall it works just fine.

Nice little machine, easy to use and you don't have to wait for a pot to boil. So far the hard-boiled eggs I've made have been very easy to peel. The only problem I'm having is they have all been undercooked. I started with one soft boiled, using the water measurements on the water cup, it was a little too soft boiled. I then tried one egg at the medium boil water level. That one came out more like a soft boiled. I made one hard boiled egg using the water level on the cup. The timer did go off before the suggested time in the instructions and the yolk was undercooked. It was fine to eat alone, but, the undercooked yolk wouldn't work well when making deviled eggs. I did immerse the hard boiled in ice cold water right after cooking. I experimented with more hard boiled, filling the water cup almost to the top. Then I let the egg sit under the dome about 2 additional minutes after the timer went off (this time the timer went off closer to the time indicated in the instructions). I only rinsed it quickly in cold water and put it in the refrigerator. It was still slightly undercooked for use in deviled eggs. I'm going to experiment further to see what will get it to the hard boiled yolk consistency I'm looking for. So my suggestion to anyone who's using this, experiment first to see if it's coming out the way you want it. I was using large size eggs right out of the refrigerator.
