I used organic popcorn in this machine and it worked well, there were a few crazy un popped corns that flew out but I expected since the directions warned that this may happen with small corns. Popcorn makes a good and healthy whole-grain snack, far better for us and less costly than the unhealthy ultraprocessed snacks that dominate the grocery store shelves. I've been eating popcorn for more than 80 years, which says something in itself. I have several different poppers of various kinds but have settled on this for day-to-day use. It's virtues are that it is inexpensive; pops up a batch easily, quickly and with minimal effort; involves no oil; and is easy to clean. Its chief drawbacks are that it almost always produces quite a few unpopped old maid kernels and tends to blow popped and old-maid kernels far and wide. To remedy these problems would require a fundamentally different and probably more expensive design — I don't see any air poppers that look more promising in these respects. Nice little popper. Always use Orville. No cheap popcorn. Does a good job. Doesn’t burn. Just lots of unpopped fly out especially at the beginning. But I’d still recommend. Makes good popcorn!

My wife read somewhere that microwave popcorn is not for health conscious people. I have had to go without one of my favorite snacks unless we go the old boiling oil bit. Saw a review on this popper in Consumers Report and it really works. No oil, no mess, no greasy pan to clean. It also has a small dish on top where you can melt butter from the hot air. Love it! There’s nothing to clean unless I put butter in that little dish. Best $20 bucks I’ve spent in a long time. ... show more

Works OK, the plastic top part keeps falling off when I turn it upside down to toss unpopped kernels, so it’s made cheaply. The butter tray fell off into the trash and I didn’t notice it before throwing it out. I just used a jar lid to cover it with a metal cup to hold it down. Asked the company to send another lid, which I would have paid for but never heard back from them. Also, the popcorn often flies out and misses the huge bowl I put underneath it. ... show more

    • No luck? How old are your kernels?
First night, tried kernels I have had for a while (no idea of date of purchase) and it didn’t really pop any—they just bounced around and got spit out like they were too lightweight to stay in the heated chamber. During troubleshooting, read that the freshness of the popcorn matters but if I add a teaspoon of water to old kernels and seal them in a jar overnight, they should work. Lo and behold, success. Like once they were rehydrated, they were heavy enough to stay in the heated chamber (???). Fresh kernels would have been even better (I know from experience using my parents dash) but this helped me not waste the ones I already had. All that to say, I was quick to blame the machine and the machine works great, exactly as it should. ... show more

This hot air popcorn maker is pretty good overall. It's easy to use, just add your kernels and press the button - simple enough. I've had this one for a while now and it still works fine (unlike some of my other ones). You can melt butter on top too, which is nice if you want that movie theater taste. The measuring cup also doubles as a butter melting tray, which is convenient. It makes a decent amount of popcorn too, perfect for when friends come over or just for snacking at home. (I once had to eat an entire bag of these by myself because my dog ate all the other food in the house.) The only downside is that it's not as reliable as I would like. It's been working fine so far, but I have a feeling it might break down sooner rather than later based on past experiences with this model. Still, for the price, it's hard to complain. Plus, if you need a replacement, they're cheap enough to buy another one. If you're looking for a simple and affordable popcorn maker that does the job, then this is worth checking out. ... show more
