Really great cooktop. Heats up super fast. I’m used to gas tops so this was new to me. Make sure to regulate the temp as needed. Also seems that the unit can be operated in limited time frame about 60min. I guess to allow for cool down. Otherwise this is perfect for campers.

I ordered this simply for a couple of reasons: 1) Family likes cooking hot pot on special occasions and 2) Don’t want to use our gas stove since we have solar. There are some positives and negatives for this cooktop. I used it for a week now and found that it has certain limitations. What I Observed: 1) The actual cooking area is 8.25 inches in diameter. It takes ANY kind of material for your pots/pans, unlike induction cooktops which won’t take certain material. 2) It heats up fast! I stir fried some veggies within 10 minutes. With that in mind, it gets hot fast. Would I buy this if I still had a toddler in the house? NO, unless I am constantly guarding it. The bottom and edge don’t get hot, but the center glows red (which could be too intriguing for little kiddos) 3) The cord is only 31 inches long. We had to use an extension cord for hot pot at the table. 4) There are 5 settings: Warm, Lo, Medium, Hi, and Sear. There’s a chart in the Instructions Manual of what each is capable of doing. I found that I only had to use the setting one below the recommended to get the job done. 5) One drawback of this electric cooktop is that it’s Maximum Run time is ONE HOUR. After which you have to let it cool down before using again. It hampers when using for hot pot or if everything you’re cooking takes longer than one hour. Hence, the 4 stars. 6) It is 120 V, 60 Hz, and 1200 W, pretty powerful. Maybe that’s why you can only use it for one hour at a time. 7) One year warranty My conclusion is that it’s a good electric cooktop for fast cooking under an hour. Good as an extra burner. First experience with this burner didn't o well. Tried to boil 3qts of water, and our and half later and the water is 185*. The burner turns on for 17sec, then off for 43sec when set on the highest setting. With a cycle like that the 1,200 watts is pointless.

I have a modern gas range, with two "simmer" burners and two that serve for sautéing etc. I cannot get a reliable simmer out of any of the burners, and even with Creuset there is uneven cooking in a full stock pot. While I've adapted to it by shifting pans and burners, I too often grumble about having to monitor my pans so closely. This extra electric burner's satisfied me a couple times since purchase, giving me a more consistent simmer as well as alternative cooking places in the kitchen. It would be nice if it had a light to warn you it's still hot if you're cooking around children, but if you're careful it should be fine. It's not heavy, is as big as a stack of 4-5 dinner plates, but worth the storage if you even just want to keep something warm on the table. It's not something I'll pull out every day, but really helps with soups and reductions. ... show more

Heating food up and basic cooking has been convenient, though I've only used it a few times so far. It heats up very quickly and puts out a lot of heat. I have stainless steel pots and pans and the heat dissipation is good. I couldn't get a pot of water to boil - it would start to simmer and then the overheat circuit would kick in and turn off the element. Sauteeing is easy but I haven't tried pan or deep frying. I got this to match my red Dash kettle, forgetting the red kettle had died and been replaced with grey, and Amazon accidentally sent me the grey, which worked out great. The unit is attractive, not compact but it's not as bad as other portable eyes I've seen. Once it cools, I just stand it on the side and slide it behind the air fryer, so no loss of counter space. Heat retention isn't huge, but you'll def want to be careful until you know it's cool, there's no "hot surface" light. ... show more
