This review is for a 2018 4Runner Limited with JBL and Factory Sirius/XM and I warn you it is long. I purchased the Scout version of the radio from Amazon and it was delivered promptly. During my research, I watched various installation videos on YouTube to prepare me for the installation. I unboxed the radio and everything was in order although installation instructions are lacking. The radio is well packed in Styrofoam. Installation information/tips (I am very handy) • I left the protective plastic on the front of screen to protect it during installation. • I used bubble wrap on my work bench to cushion both the Toyota head unit and the Dasaita unit. • Swapping the vents, vent knobs and the clips was easy but I have to admit having viewed the video it made it much easier. • There were two wires remaining in the dash when I was finished connecting all the harnesses. They appear to be the stock microphone and the Sirius/XM antenna connection which neither are used. A picture of one of the wires is attached, • I installed the GPS antenna on the left side, inside the dash. It appears to be the inside of the instrument dash cowl. • The factory Sirius XM is under the stock head unit and bolted to the factory brackets. It has a harness that doesn’t need to be removed. • I drilled holes in the factory brackets to accommodate the screw on the side of the Dasaita unit so I didn’t have to bend the factory brackets to mate with the bolt holes. • I couldn’t get the rear camera to work on the Dasaita unit until I realized that I had to plug in harness “F” and connect the yellow male and female RCA connectors. Pros • The fit and finish of the unit is fantastic, and the unit looks like it belongs in the dash. The silver color is spot on. I have had many complements from friends. • The screen resolution is very good. • While I am not an audiophile, I think sound is better than the Toyota head unit. • Having Apple CarPlay via Zlink is fantastic and the ability to listen to Pandora and Spotify is great especially since the Toyota unit stopped allowing me access to IHeart radio leaving me only the over the air radio stations. • With CarPlay, I can listen to my texts being read and respond verbally. • Phone calls are good with large buttons to connect and hang up. • Radio stations come in loud and clear unlike some reviewers on the internet. Cons • I found the Scout interface lacking and very counterintuitive. I connected to my house wifi and downloaded the new version of Scout and it was even worse. I asked Dasaita to send me the MAX10 which they did, and I installed it and I am much happier with the MAX10 interface. • I wish there were better wiring diagrams or pictures as it would have prevented the issue with the rear camera I noted above. • There are so many options it is mind boggling. (not a fault of the Dasaita unit) • Not being familiar with an Android tablet, it has been a learning experience. (not a fault of the Dasaita unit) • Even after tweaking settings, I still can’t modulate the radio volume. At level one it is still fairly loud. At 5 it is downright deafening. • Tuning the radio and setting radio presets in not intuitive. I must be missing something. • I spent 15 minutes routing the external microphone through the dash so I could mount it on the instrument cowl between the steering wheel only to find out that there was no plug on the back of the unit for the male plug, nor did I see anything on the harnesses. Dasaita never returned my e-mail question on this one. I have had the unit in the car for about a week but just installed the MAX10 interface two days ago. I think the pros outweigh the cons and am very happy with the Dasaita unit. If you are on the fence, my recommendation is to buy it. Amazon gives you 30 days in which to return it. I will try to update this review after a few weeks of use. After a week, the screen periodically will have yellow tinge and the resolution drops and then it will go back to normal. Apparently a defect. Amazon is sending me another unit to replace this one. Will update after a few weeks ... show more

I like this a lot. Easy to install and able to download Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, ESPN... onto the unit. CarPlay looks great on the big screen. Only issue I have is when connecting the phone via usb, it doesn't connect and you need to unplug and plug back in to get the unit to activate CarPlay.

Overall a great screen which I am very happy with. Only bad thing is that dust gathers behind the screen which you cannot clean. Bothers me alot.

Great radio except the audio microphone. Absolutely terrible. No on egg can hear or understand what you’re saying! I purchased another microphone from Amazon and hope it solves the problem. Only problem is I have to pull the radio again!!!

It's a definite upgrade from the factory unit. Big screen, apps, all the music 🎶 options. Not really missing the XM Radio. Negative are fingerprints show up on the screen, hard to update the MSC file, Wi-Fi doesn't always turn on, and can be frustrating to have to turn off your 4runner to reset it. Isn't always user friendly to reboot when you're 4runner is cranked. ... show more

Installed shortly after order. Not quite plug-and-play, but reasonable enough. Worked great for a few months, and we loved it. Then screen went suddenly black with no clear reason. Knobs, touchscreen, and Bluetooth all still respond but are useless without the display. Have tried support and forums from the manufacturer to no avail. Awesome product, if it would have lasted. Update: manufacturer has has me twice disassemble the unit, each time progressively more digging into the innards. Can I open the case, pull out a ribbon cable, disassemble, pull off and replace a chip/board? Sure, I’ll try. But they have yet to solve the issue nor honor the warranty by providing a replacement unit ... show more

First off, I am not a frequent reviewer, and didn't get a dime for doing this...but after my experience I wanted to share. I was cautiously aware of buying this unit, as I had not heard of the brand, and after just installing a name brand head unit in our other car (it went "ok" but required me to make all of the wire connections and wasn't plug and play at all, and required $200+ in extra cables and "boxes" to keep the steering wheel control. Now onto this one. I got it out of the box, removed the old one (watched a few videos for how-to) and then swapped out vent, top tray, brackets, and then onto the wiring. It was literally PLUG and PLAY. There were admittedly a ton of wire, but really they only plug in to one option. It truly took longer to swap out the vents etc. than to "wire". I then took it to the 2015 4Runner and turned it on...and all worked. I did have to swap the 2 yellow RCA plugs (there are 2 and I guessed which one was which first time) when the reverse camera showed up as yellow exclamation mark icon. As soon as I swapped it worked perfectly, and as another reviewer wrote pops up instantly when in reverse. The steering wheel controls work perfectly, exactly as OEM head unit, with no programming, or anything extra. I still need to learn all of the setting, but it's basically an Android tablet. I did notice that Android Auto connects through Bluetooth, even without connection through USB...so essentially wireless. Again, I got nothing for this review, but so far, based on install and initial setup will certainly look to them first next time I replace a head unit! ... show more

Pros: sound quality is excellent, better than oem Android auto works well Screen resolution is good as is color reproduction Cons: No wire harness for steering wheel controls. Instead you need to splice the wires Screen brightness range is terrible. It is too bright at night It has frozen twice Android auto can be slow, especially activating voice controls.
