I’m going to break this review down into sections, but want to note upfront that I have no experience with laser engravers. So keep that in mind as I try to give you the best review I can possibly give: UNBOXING & SETUP: the packaging on this item was excellent. Everything was snuggly packed with dense foam. All the accessories were individually boxed and snuggly packed as well. The green cover had protective film everywhere and once removed everything looked brand new and excellent. The only thing I really had to install Wais the box that contains the laser which you can see in the second photograph. It slides into place and the electronic connector snaps easily into place. COMPUTER & SOFTWARE: the instructions that come with the engraver are likely adequate if you have experience with a laser engraver, but I found them difficult to understand. It took a bit longer to figure out installation and I did learn that if you are planning on using a MacBook, you need one with Mac silicon (so an M1 chip or newer). I’m still not clear whether that was for the included software or for the hardware, but I only have an Intel based MacBook and was unable to get it to work. With that said, I was able to install the included software on a surface pro seven and was able to get results Immediately. However, I decided to download a trial of light burn software, and after watching a couple short videos, I was able to create what you see in the picture and cut through the included sample wood. The detail on the laser is excellent, and the letters are incredibly sharp. And again, I don’t have a lot of experience so I imagine I will be able to dial in the settings better as I get more familiar with the device. ENGRAVER UNIT: the first thing you should note is this does not come with the roller unit (which is unclear from the pictures in the listing). So keep that in mind if you are planning on engraving on water bottles or the like. With that said, you can see the dimensions in the pictures and the sizing is somewhat equal to an old record player unit. It comes with feet extenders if you’re planning on printing on thicker items. It includes the USB cables you need to connect to your computer. And it also contains a blower unit. The machine is mostly quiet and produces a smell. I would imagine is consistent with most engraver. OVERALL: I only had a chance to test the engraver on wood. I will add a section to this review when I learn how to laser etch metal and will also comment on the color capabilities. But overall, as someone who has very little experience, I found the learning curve to be very quick and the device to be really fun. I’m looking forward to engraving everything from serial numbers and phone numbers on items we own to creating custom works of art.
