This is an awesome rod for the price I still can't believe I got it so cheap! Shipping was fast and the rod/reel was in perfect brand new shape when I received it. Very easy to use if you are a beginner. This thing has a very functional smooth reel. Castability is great I can cast it a mile with a heavier bait. Rod is the perfect size and very lightweight, strong and the quality is nice. It has plenty of flex to where you can feel every bite. Bought this as a b'day present for a 10 year old. He was already enthusiastic about fishing, but his equipment was pretty lame (last year's b'day gift!). This combo represents equipement that can be used for years without any apologies about quality. It is pretty lightweight, but for freshwater fishing should be just fine (maybe better than fine).     • Does not function properly
The rod on this Daiwa is fine for the money, but the reel is hopeless. I tied on fresh line and cast, with difficulty, perhaps 25 feet. The reel was stopping the line from detaching. Soon enough, the line got tangled. I patiently untangled it, but it repeatedly tangled again and again, until the line was "locked." The reel is terrible. I should have known that you get what you pay for, but this thing is not worth the little money it costs. ... show more

Bought this planning to use it for panfish, maybe some trout. Put 4lb line on it, took it out the first time, and caught a 6lb bass. This rod handled it like a champ, good drag on the reel, good bend on the rod. I've owned several rods, including some high-end ones. This rod is not high-end by any means, but for $30, it's a great rod + reel for the price if you're a beginner or on a budget. This rod is highly recommended ... show more
