This is an awesome rod for the price I still can't believe I got it so cheap! Shipping was fast and the rod/reel was in perfect brand new shape when I received it. Very easy to use if you are a beginner. This thing has a very functional smooth reel. Castability is great I can cast it a mile with a heavier bait. Rod is the perfect size and very lightweight, strong and the quality is nice. It has plenty of flex to where you can feel every bite. Bought this as a b'day present for a 10 year old. He was already enthusiastic about fishing, but his equipment was pretty lame (last year's b'day gift!). This combo represents equipement that can be used for years without any apologies about quality. It is pretty lightweight, but for freshwater fishing should be just fine (maybe better than fine). I’ve been fishing with this for three days now and this rod/reel combo seems to be a great value. The rod is very sturdy but has decent action. I can still feel my lures on the end of the line. The reel is not the best but it works. I’ve noticed that it seems to grind a little when the drag is high, so I oiled it but no change. As a result, I keep the drag low and it’s a pretty smooth reel. I haven’t really tested it yet but based on the price I’d buy it again ... show more

I'm a vet in domicillary and the rec dept had the 6 foot model which I have been using for 2 months with no problems. I decided to purchase my own and went with the 61/2 ft model. Same quality and for the price...can't be beat. Caught 7 rainbows today when I used it for the first time! I think it casts a bit further than the 6 ft model. The open face reel is a liitle smaller than it looks in the photos. A fair amount of plastic parts on it, too. Wouldnt expect it to last very long if I was using it weekly. But for 20.00, its an overall good value
