  • Great multipurpose baitcaster for saltwater and freshwater
Size: One Size
Effective reel and downright beautiful blue finish. Drag clicks between settings precisely. No problems casting far, and retrieval and drag are both smooth. Feels sturdy with no loose parts. Looks so good you want to display it somewhere. My first T-wing reel and my impression is it works well for casting, but it is not magic so don't expect that. The single-mode braking system is effective, very simple and easy to adjust. As with any good baitcaster, once dialed-in, had no backlash issues, but you do need to adjust it properly. The stock handle and knobs are very ergonomic and one of the highlights for me, coming from the basic flat stock handles on most mid-price reels. Buying direct from Amazon, my biggest concern was that this reel would be significantly larger and heavier than typical low-profile freshwater reels. It isn't. The increased size is barely noticeable compared to Abu Revo models. Only one very small drawback, the tension knob does not have a clicker, but this is being pretty picky and I was able to adjust it just fine by feel. ... show more

  • Excellent reels
Size: One Size
Hands down BADASS reels.... After buying and trying out one, I immediatly cleaned up all of my Abu Garcia Revo SX reels , put them back into their original box, and sold them. These Daiwas will cast light weight lures without backlashing. It will backlash if you try hard enough. They cast effortlessly. I am used to casting hard with my Revo SX reels, so I am now slowly learning to cast with less force for thr same amount or further casts. I also tried pitching in heavy cover with 65# and 80# braid on 7'11" abu garcia veritas 2.0 Heavy and Extra Heavy rods. Works wonders! Pulled Large Mouth Bass out of the heavy cover like nothing. Other than that, they are great with PLine 15# mono for soft plastics. Love the large handles.. You can get to them at all times and they crank effortlessly! Caught a nice 20" Hybrid Bass and I had no trouble reeling in. The reel was smooth throughout the rotations of the handle. Can't wait to try them out at the coast! ... show more

  • A reel in a class of its own.
Size: One Size
What an awesome reel.. this being my first real bait caster it’s completely night and day. I’ve had other entry level setups but nothing as smooth as this one. I’ve had the opportunity to finally use it in the surf and what a difference it made in my cast alone. The t-wing concept is awesome which I feel aids less in“birds nesting”. The 7.3:1 gear ratio is stellar compared to abu Garcia’s similar ratios. With the more pronounced hand assembly you can connect with the reel much sooner than with much smaller handles. I have paired this setup with 20lb J braid X grand 8 and was able to get as much as 170-190yards. As far as the weight goes 8.1 oz is huge factor when walking long distances to seek out fish. For smaller target species like surf perch or bass in general its great. ... show more

  • Had to send reel to Daiwa for gear repair after a few months of very mild use, twice.
Size: One Size
Had gear issues not once but twice, within the first year. You can easily get 2 or 3 other EXCELLENT reels for the price you'll pay for this reel.

  • Bad bearing
Size: One Size
Would've been a 5 star review. Reason is when I had fish on the line reeling it in, it stopped retrieving as if the gears jammed causing the fish ( striper ) still in water had to retrieve by hand to land. And now it has a bad bearing on the spool adjustment side plate same side as the reel handle. Don't know if that caused it. ... show more

  • It's Hard to Find a Good Saltwater Baitcaster
Size: One Size
I fish from shore, and this baitcaster does the job. I have fished this reel 15+ times in chest deep water with 3ft waves. I sure did get hit with a few plus sized waves that put my reel under water (don't tell anyone). I have opened and inspected this reel before writing a review. What I found as a very slightly wet looking surface, which wasn't salt water (weird I know). It is possible that when I rinse the reel after every use, fresh water gets in there, though I dump water on the reel with a cup and do not allow actual faucet pressure to hit the reel, which could push debris into the reel housing. I also found the gears to be a little under greased. No joke, other than adding some grease and oil I found nothing noteworthy. No sand, no saltwater, no rusting. THRILLED WITH THIS PURCHASE! ... show more

  • Busts fishy butts!
Size: One Size
Smooth, long casting and manages big fish well. It’s upside down but shown here in its natural habitat. No flaws uncovered so far. Highly recommend this product for inshore and fresh water power fishing

  • Good support, terrible warranty.
Size: One Size
I bought this reel back in August in anticipation of my fishing trip which was this past week. The tensioner knob fell off within one week of use. Seems like a design flaw, but it fell in the river and was gone. I called Daiwa and was able to talk to someone who spoke fluent English, but I had to buy the tensioner knob. The reel is awesome. I'm just disappointed that the knob would fall off so easily and then they wouldn't warranty the obvious design flaw. I will looks elsewhere for my next reel. ... show more
