  • Great product and includes all the cables for use
Product seems to be well built and functions as it’s supposed to and best of all it includes all of the cables you need to use it

  • Easy to use, sounds better than expected
I have a more-than-decent pair of headphones (HyperX Cloud Alpha S), but the included USB dongle sounds really muddy and feels like it's not providing enough power to really move the drivers like it should. I can plug directly into the back of my PCs motherboard to get more power and volume, but as soon as I fire up a game the power draw from my GPU causes some static and interference to start coming through my headphones, so it wasn't an ideal solution either. This actually fixes both issues. It sends enough power to my headphones that I can listen at half volume and still get a lot of sound, and since the signal travels through an optical cable it doesn't pick up any interference from other nearby devices. I'm not a sound engineer so I can't get into the real nitty-gritty details, but to me it makes my headphones sound better and that's all I was asking for it to do. There's a red light on the back of the device whenever it's powered on, but a small piece of electrical tape fixes that small issue if it bothers you. My plan is to leave it loose for a bit to nail down my preferred location and then use some command strips to secure it to my desk. I'm also leaving my old headphone cord tucked away so I can use my headset microphone (this does not have a microphone input for a gaming headset) when I need to, trading sound quality for the ability to talk to my friends when gaming together. At this price I do recommend this device. I don't know how well it will do with pricier, higher-impedance headphones, but for a normal pair of headphones this should really wake them up nicely. ... show more

  • Good converter
I got this converter because I had gotten a different one and I thought it just didn't work. Turns out that the instructions on this one were more clear - they both need PCM mode on my TV, and I just simply did not know that with the other one, but this has a picture that clearly shows how to set my LG TV. Once I had that set right, this worked well for the most part. The sound coming out of my speakers sounded good, and the additional volume control on the converter itself is convenient. It's pretty inconvenient, however, that I cannot use "LG Sync" on my TV to control the volume from the TV itself; I can only use the speaker volume and the knob on the converter, which makes this less than ideal to use with my TV. Overall though, this is a pretty good product as long as you don't need to control the volume through the TV itself. ... show more

  • Failed Twice and No Power Adapter
It claimed to come with 5V1A power adapter. But that part was missing. I used my own USB power source that had the same power specs. However, the device just emitted noisy hiss. Thinking that I was sent a defective product, I returned it for another one. The "new" one arrived. This time not only was it also missing the power adapter too, but the optical cable appeared to be used. Nevertheless, it would have been forgivable if only the converter worked. Same as before, a noisy hiss. I will not try a third time. Before sending it back, I went ahead and took it apart. I saw a bad solder joint which I repaired. Now, it is working. I use it for TV watching and for that purpose, it operates fine. ... show more

  • Wow! It works for music, tv, and games
I was having some issues transferring sound from my TV to my headphones. There was this small hiss that I kept hearing from the AUX output, and since I use top of the line headphones, I knew it wasn't them. After feeding the audio signal from the Optical jack of the TV to this DAC, and then to my headphones, the signal has never been cleaner. I didn't realize how pervasive that hiss was until it was gone. I tested out a few other things that I found interesting: -supports stereo output to the headphone output and RCA output simultaneously. I have 2 studio monitors, and the DAC sent stereo signals to them simultaneously, so you can use your cans and/or your monitors -the volume dial works well, and for what it is, the volume increases gradually once you get passed 25% of a turn. I kept the dial at around 75% of a turn, and heard no issues at all. At 100%, the signal was too strong, and my studio monitors couldn't be adjusted as finely as I would have liked. The toslink , rca, and coaxial cables included were a nice bonus. You will need 5V from somewhere to power it, so if you don't have a spare USB port near it, you'll need to buy a USB power adapter to plug into the wall. For under $20, I'm floored with the quality. If you're using this to listen to CDs, TV, streaming, or anything at the consumer level, this is a no-brainer. And for the gamers out there, I saw no perceptible lag in audio when playing games. I don't have the equipment to do a proper test, but I heard my enemies clear as day, and when I pushed a button on my controller, there was no lag in audio getting to my headphones. ... show more

  • Comes with everything and sounds great.
This box is everything it’s advertised to be. It has sturdy metal construction, comes with every single cable that can be plugged into it, comes with a manual, and lastly: it sounds great. Here’s how I use this device: Long story short, this device makes it so that I only have to run (1) HDMI cable from my laptop to my TV for my entire entertainment system to receive both video and audio. My TV only has a TOSLINK digital audio output, so to get audio to my external speakers, I have to run a separate audio cable to my source device (my laptop) to my audio system, alongside the HDMI cable to get video signal to my TV. HDMI can carry audio too, but I had no way to get the analog audio out of the HDMI cable/TV (in technical words, I had no way to de-embed audio from HDMI). With this device, I can now use my TV’s TOSLINK audio output by converting the TV’s optical output to analog audio with this box. Then, with the analog output off this device, I connect to my external speakers. I set this up using the included 1m TOSLINK cable. I also used the included USB power cable to power the box from my TV’s USB port. I then used the 3.5mm “headphone” stereo output to connect audio from this device into my external speakers! The box is small enough and I plan to Velcro it behind my TV. It has an orange LED to show power-on status. ... show more
