First off, the 45-130 gauge are my go to strings for my 5 string. They are super punchy on a J Bass and cut through the mix really well. Second, D’Addario has amazing customer support. The core of the g string was defective in my most recent pack and snapped on installation, so I reached out to customer support to see what they could do. Year after year of using these strings, these just perform better than no other! Great longevity and durability. Tone is incredible, bright, punchy, piano-y, just the way I like it. I tried NYXTs for a little while, but they weren't as bright and didn't sustain as well. Went back to NYXLs and I'm happy again! ... show more

I've been using Fodera strings on my Fodera basses for 10 years. I've tried other strings but have always put the Foderas back on until now. I like a deep , warm sound. The Fodera strings are warmer and deeper than these, but these have plenty of those qualities plus more mids and clarity. I also sometimes use sliding harmonics and they really jump out with these strings. The regular B string was OK but I changed to a tapered B and it really made a difference. With the tapered string the low notes really growl. When I tried a tapered Fodera B I didn't notice much difference.I have used these strings on four gigs now for reggae jazz, jazz standards and Latin jazz. The priority for me is that the drummers can hear me clearly and these pass that test.. These strings are very clear and articulate for soloing and all finger style playing. I still really like the Fodera strings but these are better in many ways at about the same price. ... show more

These are the best strings I've had the pleasure of playing with thus far. These are open roundwounds, which have a nice ring to them. Highly recommended by a YouTube guitar/Bass player by the name of David Funk.

Wow, great strings. right after stringing up on my Warwick 5 rock bass,they sounded real bright and punchy. Most strings also waver out of tune right away, but these ones pretty much stayed in tune.

I used to have an Ibanez BTB675 and had the NYXL's on them for a long while. I tried Ernie Ball regular Slinkys which I liked better on that bass. My Fender Jazz 5 had NYXL's for a while, but not so great. DR Sunbeams or Elixirs are better on that bass. HOWEVER, I replaced the BTB675 with a BTB1825 that has different pickups and the NYXL's are a good fit. Also, as far as bass string pricing goes, most other bass strings are substantially more expensive than they were 2 years ago, some 30% more expensive. These strings have maintained their price point which makes them an excellent value, especially if you want to try them out. ... show more
